I felt my hands start to sweat, my throat start to close. Oh god, why me? Why do I have to be the one to marry him?
"Catherine, honey stand up and look alive!" My mother's soft voice yelled from the other side of the room. I kept my head down, starring at the flower title floor. My mother seemed alright with me marring him.
"Catherine are you sure you are alright?" I heard my brother's worried voice right next to me. I soon felt the couch I was sitting on dip next to me with his weight.
I managed a smile. "Its just cold feet trying to work its way up," I said biting my bottom lip. He nodded but it seemed he knew more than I thought.
"Are you sure you want to go with this? You can still back out." My brother said. His brown eyes showed how serious he was.
"What are you talking about? She can't back out not when all human life depends on her marring him." Stacy my brother's girlfriend said walking into view. "Your brother's life, your mother's life, your friend's insignificant lives. Everyone close to you and that includes me, sadly." Stacy never liked me for some reason.
"Stacy..." My brother began to say.
"Your right, I'm sorry Catherine. This is your big day, your getting married to a blood sucking monster." Stacy flopped down in front on us with a smirk on her thin lips.
My brother groaned and was about to get up and make her leave but I grabbed his wrist, "Its alright, it doesn't offend me like it would to him."
My brother nodded his head and sat back down next to me. "Catherine I am serious about backing out."
"I know and thank you for worrying over me." I said quietly. I tried to make my voice strong but the nerves running down my head, spine all the way to the balls of my feet stopped me from doing so.
"Oh come on! Even I admit it that it won't be that bad! He is hot..." Stacy said and slowly stopped when she saw my brother's glare. He was about to say something but my mom cut in.
"Catherine! You need to get in your dress already!" She yelled from the bathroom. I did a quick glance at my brother's expression before getting up and walking towards the bathroom. Pain, sadness was all hidden deep in his eyes. He must feel like couldn't kept dad's word when he said to protect me and my mother, since I am after all going to marry a vampire.
I stepped into the dress and allowed my mother to pull the strings hard, closing the dress up. "You know why I am letting you marry him." My mother whispered as she pulled the strings hard. I placed my hands on the edge of the sink holding my self in place when she pulled with all her force.
"Your life and all the ones closest to me." I said looking down at the sink, letting my hair fall into my face.
"Not only that but the life of every human, by marrying him you are signing a contract which grantees vampires will not feed on humans freely." My mother whispered. I froze, not only was my mother's and brother's life on the line but every human who was unlucky as to run into a vampire at night...
"Now don't worry about that, this is your big day." My mother said happily and she knot the strings together. I didn't say anything, as my stomach was now getting apart of the sweaty palms and closed throat. "Catherine Eve Thornton listen to me well, you have a chose and you can perfectly decide if you want to go with this or not. Do not worry about me or anyone else. The last thing I want is you to be forced to marry someone."
I took some time before looking up into the mirror to see her brown eyes looking into mine. Her eyes shone with support of what ever my chose might be, wrong or right.
"I do not want to marry him mother but for the sake of innocent people, I will." I turned around to look at her properly in the eyes. She nodded her but didn't say anything. She went out and I followed closely behind. My brother stood up as we left the room and his eyes widen.
"You look beautiful." He said smiling at me.
"Thank you." I said giving him a small smile. I never was told these things apart from Carson these past days. He really was nice and sweet to me and thinking of standing him up makes me feel bad.
"Well I'll give you two some time to talk, come down in ten minutes." My mother said grabbing Stacy's arm gently and both of they leaving the room. My mother has always known how close we are, nothing can separate us.
"Catherine I don't want you to married someone you don't love." He said brushing my cheek gently. His brown eyes were a light honey color, sweet just like him.
"I know," I put my hand over his grabbing it.
"Yet, you still are going with it!" He said loudly yet quiet.
"I could always learn to love him." I whispered.
"You don't get it! How can you possibly love someone like him?!" His voice was getting higher with each word.
"No you don't get it!" I yelled, "You don't know how it feels to have the reminder that if I don't go through this lives will die even yours!"
He grabbed me roughly by my bare shoulders. He lowered his head so our foreheads touched. "Do you really think that by marrying a heartless person like Carson, it is going to protect me or anyone by that matter?" He breathing was coming in fast, that only happened when was scared or about to do something like breaking the law. "Think Catherine, do you really believe that they would stop drinking human blood all of the sudden?"
My eyes filled up with tears as I said, "No." He was right. What was I thinking? That everything would be alright with me just marrying him? They are vampire's for fuck's sake they aren't going to change how they live.
"I don't want my little sister marrying someone like him, anyone else but him. You haven't seen him Catherine, truly seen him. He truly is a heartless bastard." My brother's breath was coming in faster now and shorter.
"Their is no chose," I whispered helplessly. "I have to marry him."
My brother viciously shook his head, his brown eyes looking into mine in pure determination. "You are not going to marry him." He said low enough I thought I didn't hear him correctly.
"What?" I said confused. He looked around the room his eyes scanning everything in here. It was quite plain, with white walls, wall curtains and some couches with flower designs matching the title floor.
"You are going to make a run for it, I will not let you marry him."
