I ran all the way home, with the boys and Tommy on my heels. I took a deep breath and entered. "Mom!"
My sister appeared in the doorway with a confused look on her face. That confusion was washed away with relief as she saw me.
"Timber! I was so worried!" She ran up and hugged me. "I would've gone crazy without you because of mom."
"Joshua!" My mother squealed in happiness and walked over to give me a hug. I shook my head at her and took a step back. She looked back at me with a confused expression.
"No, mom. Not after what you made me do to Dash," I looked up at her. "I love her, I truly do. You never approve of girls that don't meet your standard, but I don't care about what your opinion is on Dash because she's way more than what you think of her. She's one of a kind and I don't want to let her go."
"But Joshu-" My mom began.
"Stop it mom! Don't try to convince me that Dash isn't the one or that she's someone you don't want her to be. She's perfect in every way possible," I gave her a cold stare. "She's the most flawless, funniest, kindest person I've ever met and she's had the biggest impact in my life. I wouldn't give her up, even if it meant life or death. She actually loves me for who I am, instead of someone I'm not."
My mother began to argue, "Joshua, your mother knows best. As your mother, I'm advising you to stay away from her. That Dash girl is just going to be another girlfriend you have. You won't last with her. You'll drift away as you grow older and part ways and you'll regret all the things you are saying to me right now. She's going to be a memory to you in twenty years. Believe me, Joshua. I know."
"Mom! You still don't get it!" I raised my voice as I became more frustrated. "I love her! You can't change my opinion. Take me away from the Sandlot. Send me across the country for Pete's sake! Just don't take her away from me. She means more than the world to me. I'd rather be with the one girl I'm the most comfortable with instead of a bunch of girls that I don't truly like. I never want to lose her again."
She stared at me with disbelief. I couldn't believe my words for a second there either, but that's how I feel towards Dash. I never truly expressed my love before, even to myself.
"And if you still don't approve, I have given up on caring about what you think. I love her and I want to spend the rest of my life with her. Now, I'm going to win back my girl whether you like it or not." And with that, I ran out of the house to plan how I'm going to win Dash back.
The boys quickly followed me and probably heard what I said to my mom. They stopped me just before we turned into the Sandlot. Tommy patted my back.
"That was a gutsy thing to do, Timber."
"I know. Dash must mean a lot to you," DP flashed me his crooked smile. I sighed and looked at all the boys.
"I just want my girl back."
-Dash's Point of View-
I sat on my bed, staring into the darkness and asking myself what went wrong. I looked at my clock.
11:34 p.m.
I sighed and shut my eyes. Why would he do that? I thought he loved me. I thought our kisses meant something. I thought all of his words were real. I thought he actually gave a damn about me.
I heard a soft knock on my door along with my door slowly opening. I opened my eyes to see Wings's face.
"Wings?"
"Come with me, Dash. No questions asked," He said firmly, entering my room.
"What?" I asked. My confusion was building; first my questions about Timber and now Wings?
"We're leaving," Wings stated. He grabbed my red Converse and tossed them to me. "Let's go."
"What am I walking into now?" I mumbled and slipped both of my shoes on. I followed him out the door and got onto his bike.
"Where are we going?"
"No questions asked," he replied and started to pedal down the street. The town looked so empty at midnight. Only a liquor store was open, which illuminated the night.
I inhaled the fresh midnight air and sighed deeply. So many things were running through my mind and this just added to the mountain. Wings took a sharp left turn to go to the sandlot, making my stomach churn. I could see a tall figure on the pitchers mound as we slowed to a stop.
"Go on," Wings told me with a thumbs up. I bit my lip and hopped off. "I wish you two the best and I hope you guys have a good night." He biked away, leaving me speechless. I have to deal with the one who broke my heart. The kid who gave me the world and crushed it right in front of me.
