April 18, 2013: Ewan called the hospital, but discovered the line was full, so he decided to head over there himself. He arrived at the building 15 minutes later, and in the lobby was a crowd of people, both patients and employees. He approached a young man in his late-20s, whose nametag identified him as Alan Lloyd. Ewan asked Alan if he knew where Adam O’Neal was, and Alan informed him that Adam had died last week, and they were getting ready to hold the funeral in a few hours.
Suddenly, Ewan started to put the connections together. If Gus was retired, and O’Neal was dead, then it had to be someone not on the payroll. He asked Alan Lloyd what his job was, and he said that he was a medical student working with Dr. Branson. Ewan knew that if he was a medical student, he wouldn’t be paid, so he didn’t show up on the payroll. That meant that he must have gotten his pay from somewhere else. He flashbacked to that morning, when Gilding was having a conversation with the taxi driver. This meant that the driver must have known Gus. Plus they were talking about something at a lab the next day, meaning that they worked together at least every once in a while. Therefore, the criminal was Alan Lloyd.
Alan saw the thought process that Ewan was going through, and when the detective gave him a suspicious look, he started jumping off chairs and pushing people away as he ran out of the door. Ewan quickly gave pursuit, and chased him down the street. Alan pulled into a residential neighborhood, and knocked on a random door. The person who answered was an old man who had clearly been taking a shower and was rather mad.
“What is it? I don’t want to buy popcorn or whatever it is you Boy Scouts are selling.” he groaned.
“Help me. There’s a man chasing me, and I need to get away from him.” replied Alan Lloyd, ignoring the insult.
The man looked down the street, saw Ewan running towards his door, and quickly ushered Alan inside. Ewan, who hadn’t heard this conversation, approached the door.
“Hello, my name is Detec—” he started, before being interrupted with an uppercut to the face, and a kick in the pelvis.
When he woke up, he found himself in a jail cell sitting next to Lt. Lee, who had a horrifying smile on his face.
“Oh, I’ve been waiting a while for this.” he chuckled.
“What am I even in here for?” asked Ewan, who was pretty sure he knew the answer.
“Stalking and attempted trespassing.” informed Lee.
“No, no, no, you’ve got it all wrong, just ask—” he started, before realizing that he hadn’t told anyone his plan, and therefore, there was nobody Emerson could ask.
After paying a small fine and spending the night in prison, Ewan was released, much to Emerson’s disappointment.
