Four
Fifteen minutes later, I was slamming the front-door behind me, running upstairs and throwing my bag on my bed. I’d walked home with Mark, but we hadn’t spoken much, because he had been on the phone to Smith and I was too angry. I pulled on one of my boxing gloves from the desk and starting pounding the punch-bag in the corner. It was hard doing it with only one hand, since the other was in a cast but I managed to let out most of my anger and frustration. It was wrong that they could come and live in our towns, live amongst us and think nothing of it. After more than ten minutes of repeated punching, the doorbell chimed. I flew down the stairs to answer it and was surprised when I found Jesse there, leaning against the doorframe, his glossy motorbike taking up lot’s of space outside. He stood in his usual jeans, biker boots and sunglasses but he wore a ‘my chemical romance’ t-shirt and was missing his normal leather jacket. He raised an eyebrow at me and I looked down. I was wearing what I had to school, jeans and a green polo-shirt but I was still wearing my glove, my cast and was sweating.
“Yeah, I was boxing.” I told him sheepishly. “Do you want to come in?”
He looked over my shoulder, into my hallway before answering.
“No, I’m here to pick you up, Smith needs us all.”
“Why? What happened?” I rushed.
“Three vamps charged in and demanded to speak to him, they are still there, waiting to speak to all of us.”
Why would they want to speak to us? Maybe it was a trap and they were about to drain us of all of our blood. Three vampires, oh, God, please don’t be the Hawthorne’s!
“Okay, give me two minutes.” I said before rushing up to my room and throwing my glove on my desk. I changed my polo for a black tank-top and emptied my school-bag. I shoved a few stakes inside and threw it over my shoulder, heading out again before turning back and picking up Jesse’s jacket. He was still leaning against the door and caught it when I hurled it at him. He looked at it before hanging it on the coat-rack.
“Keep it.” He said and walked to his bike. I texted my father to tell him I was out with mates and rushed after him. We were taking his bike and I felt like dancing! He only had one helmet though and I felt guilty when he handed it to me. I started to protest but he stopped me. He started the engine and I swung my leg over the bike, grabbing his torso as he sped down the street.
We were the last to arrive it seemed when Mark and Naomi’s cars and Elliot’s bicycle were in the parking lot. We jumped off and headed towards the door. I opened my back-pack and pulled out two stakes, throwing one to Jesse. He raised an eyebrow at it but was occupied by the building’s door, which was smashed open. We headed inside, glass crushing under our shoes. We arrived outside our apartment, which was closed. I shared a look with Jesse and he nodded, thinking the same thing. He held his hand on the door-knob and I stood back. I gave him another nod and he turned to handle, at the same time I kicked it open. When heard someone scream and one yell but the adrenaline was pulsing through my veins so it was all a blur. I grabbed the figure nearest to me by the scruff of their neck. It was good that I looked down at who it was before plunging my stake into them because I was looking into the startled eyes of Naomi. I released her and turned around, finding three vampires standing there, with Smith standing behind them. Clinton was there, along with a tall, muscled man with spiked brown hair and a girl with long, dark brown hair who seemed to be the same height as me. These must have been his siblings, Richard and Caroline. I was taken back by the breath-taking appearances of these two but I couldn’t stop staring at Clinton. He mimicked my gaze, staring at me. The only difference between the three was their eyes. Clinton’s were lighter than the other two’s were, unique. I forced my self to turn away, back at my friends. They were all against the wall, gripping weapons and their faces hard. Jesse grabbed my arm and pulled me behind him, any other time, I would’ve had a go at him for treated me like a child but right now it didn’t even cross my mind. I gave a Naomi an apologetic look and she nodded, forgiving me.
