The Slytherin Spy

Hogsmeade

The sun was shining down on the castle as students pranced out onto the courtyard with smiles on their faces. It was the first Hogsmeade outing this year and even the sky seemed excited for this. The air itself was chilly which is why Harry stood with Draco's scarf forcefully wound around his neck.

Ron and Hermione were joining Harry and Draco on a unspoken double date but of course Harry and Draco didn't want to draw attention to themselves for security purposes, because if word got out to Voldemort about this then they both would be vulnerable and more importantly in danger.

Pushing that to the back of his mind the four of them went about their day joking, laughing and eating a hell of a lot of chocolate. Or at least Ron and Draco did and then they had a full discussion on what type of chocolate was best. Now they were in the three broomsticks and Hermionie had just ordered them four butterbeers.
"So Draco have you done that reading for Arithmety?" Hermionie asked.
Draco's eyes lit up and Harry groaned.
"Don't get him started Hermionie he sat and talked for hours last night about it"
Draco shot Harry a glare before speaking himself "I did actually. And no Harry I didn't spend hours it was only a few minutes you're just being a drama queen"
"Pfft you're the drama queen" Harry sniped back with a grin.
"As I was saying before someone interrupted me, was that I found it fascinating how..."
"It's like having two Hermionies" Ron said with amusement in his voice.
Ron then yelped as Hermionie smacked him hard around the head.
Draco laughed "I like you Hermionie"
"Only because you're like her" Harry added quietly.
"Thank you for the compliment darling"
"Hermionie is probably going to be the next minister so I guess it is a compliment" Ron added.
"Oh shush" Hermionie said a blush rising on her cheeks.

When they had finished their drinks they started to put on their coats and scarves, and someone walked up to their booth.
"Oh hi Katie" Hermionie said and smiled at the brown haired girl standing there.
The girl didn't smile back and she started gripping a black box she was holding.
"Katie for goodness sake come on we have to go!" Said another girl loudly and grabbed Katie's elbow and tried to drag her away, giving Hermionie a shrug. But Katie resisted and stuck out the box towards Draco.
"Katie snap out of it" the other girl exclaimed and forcefully pulled Katie away. When they had left Draco gave a confused look to Hermionie and then the group headed on their way.

When they had headed around the corner of the small narrow road that lead back up to Hogwarts, with their boots crunching the white snow, they saw the two girls they had seen earlier fighting over the box. The lid slipped off and Katie bent down and picked up the content of the box but then suddenly she started rising spectacularly into the snowy sky with her arms spread out and head tilted back. Then there was a scream. A loud high pitched screaming like a vulture and Draco put his hands over his ears and found chills washing over his entire body.
Then all of a sudden the screaming stopped and she dropped dead onto the ground.

The silence was deafening and no one moved for a second. Then Harry took a few steps forward and when he was near enough he crouched down and looked at the scene.

The girl lay in a crumpled heap on the ground with her skin deathly pale and eyes closed. She was breathing but unevenly, he looked around to try and find out what had happened and saw a red ruby necklace laying close to the girls curled up fingers. Harry could feel the unease rise when he looked at the necklace and could feel the dark magic flowing out of it.

Then Hermionie, who at some point had ran off to get a teacher, arrived back with Professor McGonagall.
"Oh dear...what happened?" She asked  crouching down to the girl.
"We saw her rise into the air and scream before she dropped down like this. I think the necklace she was holding is cursed"
McGonagall pursed her lips and safety put away the necklace and levitated the girl who was acting strange with the box earlier.

"Do you think Katie was trying to give me that necklace earlier?" Draco asked, he was sitting on Harry's bed with an abandoned book in front of him.
"I don't know, I really hope not" Harry sighed. "I'm glad it didn't though apparently she's still in the hospital"
"You don't think...maybe someone wanted to hurt me"
"I would never let them" Harry said, reaching over and squeezing Draco's hands.

But someone did, they had seen Harry and Draco walk in totally unharmed and turned and walked away, they went back to the room of requirement and smiled sinisterly when a new plan formed in their mind. They were going to get Draco.
