💟LYZAH'S POV💟
I was alone again. Nothing but black. But something was different about this blackness. There was noise. But not just any noise.
Beeping.
But it wasn't just any beeping. It was something I've heard many times before. It was a heart monitor.
The beeping was distant at first. Slow and steady, echoing a bit. Then the room became lighter. Like, someone turned on a switch, but light slowly flooded in. Then, one by one, my senses came back.
First, my hearing. I could hear the heart monitor clearly now. I couldn't feel my heartbeat. But it was there. Next I could hear voices. Human voices. But they sounded muffled. Maybe they were outside the hospital room, casually walking past the room like there was no one in here. I could hear sniffles. Trevor.
Next, my sense of taste. I couldn't taste any thing in particular. Just the taste of saliva, possibly. Even though I couldn't taste anything, I knew the sense was there.
Now, I could smell. I could smell the too-sterile, clean hospital room. I could smell cleaning supplies, the usual hospital smell. But most importantly, I could smell Trevor. The wonderful aroma of his Axe cologne and Vanilla scented body wash fills my nostrils. He's here. He's still here.
I had my sense of touch back. I was no longer floating, you could say. I could feel myself on the bed, just laying there. I noticed that every time one of my senses came back, my heartbeat became stronger, and just a little faster. I could now feel something, or someone touching my hand. Trevor was still holding my hand from earlier.
I could now feel my sight coming back. All I could see now was the inside of my eyelids. I was just about to open my eyes, when I heard a voice.
"You haven't heard the last of me. I will find you Lyzah. If it's the last thing I do." He said. I froze. Why does he have to ruin everything?
"Lyzah? Honey, did you just move?" His voice kind of echoed, but still clear. Did I move? I couldn't tell. Maybe he felt me tense up.
Mustering up all my strength, I try to open my eyes. Finally, after a few attempts...
They snap open.
It was blurry at first, but my eyes adjust and focus on the ceiling. I couldn't move them just yet, but out of the corner of my eye, I see him. Trevor. He's looking at the ground, mumbling something like,"I'm crazy, there's no way she could've moved." He just shook his head, trying to ignore what had happened.
Not long after that, he looks up at me. His hair is matted, and pushed back. His face, unshaven and dirty. His cheek bones were sticking out. He hasn't eaten. His eyes had purple bags under them. He hasn't slept either. I find myself staring into his eyes. I don't bother looking away, I didn't want to. He smiles.
"Lyzah..?" He asks. "Are you really awake?" He asks, this time his voice cracked and weak.
I smile and nod. Tears forming in my eyes. He smiled at me, and he began to cry. Happy tears of course, but still tears. I tried to reach my hand to his face to wipe away the tears, but my arm wouldn't move. I could only move from my elbow to my fingers. I couldn't lift my elbow off the bed.
"Did you mean everything you said?" I asked, referring to what he said about an hour ago.
"Wait. You heard?" He asked, a little shocked.
"Yeah. I heard every word." I said, smiling.
"Oh. But, yes. I meant every single word I said." He replied.
