"Happy New Year Joey." I smiled as I leaned in to kiss him, his face illuminating the lights of the distance fireworks we watched from our balcony.

"I love you Shane. I know it'll be a good year." He smiled cheekily, his forehead still pressed against mine.

"I got this for you." I said to him, placing a small box in his palm and watching his surprised face.

He gasped. "Oh my God, Shane this is- how could- this must have cost a fortune !" He said, looking at the ring in awe. It was a gold band with tiny diamonds trickled over it.

I shrugged, but still felt proud that he loved it so much.

"Shane, thank you. I will always wear it." He smiled, throwing his arms around my neck. I slid my arms down to his hips and pressed my lips softly to his. We sat there, in awe of the shapes the colorful bursts made and enjoying each other.

I sat on the chair swing we had on our balcony and ushered Joey to sit on my lap. Slowly, I kissed him again and pushed my tounge lightly against Joey's teeth for entrance and to my surprise he eagerly let me in and deepened our kiss. He moved his hands up into my hair and clenched it as I allowed my hands to roams his body.

After I broke apart the kiss I began tickling him, just reminding myself that he's mine and I'm his. It took months of building up courage to even confess to him.

"Shane, stop ! I can't breathe !" He said giggling amd turned to face me with his beautiful smile.

"I love you Joey." I said seriously, looking into his eyes.

"I love you too Shane." And I hugged him tightly, never wanting to let go.

But suddenly he began to vanish. His body taking on the colors of the swing.

"Joey ?!" I yelled, looking down at his disappering body.

"Shane .Save me !" He cried, but his body was gone. And I woke with a start, sweat on my forehead and my bed cold.

I hastily grabbed the newspaper I always kept under the pillow next to me and clung to it, my tears silently staining it.

Man killed in car collision, the headline mocked me. It constantly reminded me that I hand't been there for Joey. I hadn't saved him.

He was gone.
