You walked into the house, put down your bags, and stretched, letting out a small groan. You didn't have much time to recover though, for you were glomped by Yuuri and his family, plus a few friends. Hey, you were popular amongst the family, to say the least. Under the mess of people, you laughed and attempted to hug everyone back.
"Ha ha! Hey guys! Long time no see!"
It was a year after the Grand Prix final, and you had come to visit Yuuri and his family for a few months, for your parents were out of the country. Why do you still live with your parents at age 24? Because your skating career wasn't enough to pay the bills. Harsh fact, but now that you were getting more recognition you were going to be able to afford your place within a few years. So, when your parents left on a business trip/vacation, you couldn't think of a better place other than Yuuri's place. You were so excited to see everyone again after a year, you had been busy for such a long time.
Eventually everyone let go, and you smiled at everyone again. "So, what's been up?" You asked, trying to avoid an awkward silence.
"Ahh, don't worry about us for now, (Name), how about you catch up with Yuuri first?" Said Hiroko, Yuuri's mom (in case you guys forgot lol). You nodded, and then turned to Yuuri, who seemed to be hiding behind everyone else. You walked up to him and...'Wait a minute.' You thought. 'Has he gained weight?'
"Hey Yuuri, we've got some catching up to do." You said to him with a smile. You tried your upmost hardest to ignore his weight, but it seems that Minako's judgementalness had rubbed off on you.
"Hehe, yeah. Here, lets go to my room, where there isn't the entire family party staring at us." He said with a smile and a nod towards the group of people who had been watching the two of you intensely. You chuckled.
"Yeah, lets." You said with a smile, eyebrows creased as you too were concerned that everyone was listening in. Yuuri led the way to his room, and when the two of you got there you sat down on his bed. He sat down next to you.
"So, tell me, what has the great Yuuri Katsuki been up to the past year?" You said, crossing your legs and resting your elbow on your knee and your head on your hand.
"Well, certainly not going on to the Four Continents competition, that's for sure." He said with a smirk. Even though you chuckled, you couldn't help but feel bad you had left him behind in the competitions. The hint of pain in his eyes when he said that made you feel immense guilt.
"Oh, stop. I barely made the cut to go there. And I flunked the Four Continents anyway!" You said, eyebrows tilted upwards, hands out in front of you shaking back and forth. It was true that you had gone on farther than him in the competitions, but the main fact was just that he wasn't as confident as you were. When you got on that ice, you just tuned out and gave it all you've got. Yuuri, on the other hand, tended to focus too much. It was a mistake you used to make, but funny enough, you had learned to get over because of him. Yuuri simply smiled and sighed.
"Yeah yeah, if you say so. Anyway, the timing for you to visit is so perfectly convenient. I got here just a few days ago, funny huh? Not to mention the weather just started to act up, you probably wouldn't have made it here before streets got dangerous." He said with a closed eye smile. Yeesh. You really hoped you could get past small talk about weather soon, you missed the old times when you guys could talk for hours without even realizing the sun was setting.
"Erm, yeah, pretty lucky." You said, voice trailing off a little. After about a minute of awkward silence, you'd had enough. You abruptly stood up, clapping your hands together and surprising Yuuri at the same time.
"Alright, enough of this small talk. Want to head to the rink and do what we do best?" You said, throwing your fist to put enthusiasm into it. Yuuri seemed relieved you had taken the initiative, and nodded quickly, getting up as well. As you headed out the door of his room, you said one more thing with a smirk.
"Maybe some skating will nudge off some of those pounds you've gained"
"Hey! You too?!"
You laughed as you walked down the hallway.
~*~
As you walked through the doors of the rink, you squealed as you saw the girl behind the counter.
"Oh my goodness Yuuko!!!" You yelled as you ran up to the counter, leaning over it to hug Yuuko. It took her a second to realize who was glomping her, but once she did she squealed too, wrapping her arms around you as well, and the two of you rocked back and forth in giggles, you hanging over the counter, feet off the ground. Yuuri watched with a smile. He knew very well that even though you and him were very close friends, nothing could really compare to the tight girl bond you had with Yuuko. You pulled away from Yuuko, still holding on to her shoulders.
"How have you been?!" You exclaimed, slowly sliding back onto your feet.
"How have I been? How have you been?! You're the one that's been all over Japan practicing!" She yelled. "How have the girls been?" You said, finally calming down. Yuuko nervously laughed.
"Oho, they're good, they've recently caused a bit of trouble though. I'm sure Yuuri could tell you a lot about it." She said with a knowing smile pointed at Yuuri. You looked at Yuuri with a confused look, and he jumped back a little with surprise.
"Oh, um, yeah, I guess, um, you could, uh, say that, er...." He stuttered, finally ending his flustered frenzy by bending over and muttering "Please don't show her the video..." Yuuko simply giggled again and handed to you her phone, which already had a video ready to be played displayed on the screen. You took it, and pressed play as Yuuri cowered behind you.
You watched the video of Yuuri skating Victor's routine in amazement. It was flawless, probably better than any of his other performances. Your mouth was agape as you continued to watch. When it was finished, you handed the phone back to a giggling Yuuko that was trying to stifle her laughter, and slowly turned around to face Yuuri, who was practically shaking.
"YuuuuuUUUUUURRRRIIIIII!!!" You yelled as you stomped over to him. "Why didn't you tell me about this?!?! It's amazing!!" You exclaimed. Yuuko walked over to the two of you, hands on her hips.
"That's not all. The girls didn't just record this." She said with a large smile.
"Eh?" You said, turning your head away from Yuuri.
"Nope! Check it out, it went viral!" Yuuko said happily, handing her phone to you again. There, low and behold, was the video on YouTube with thousands of views and tons of likes. You gawked at it, jaw hanging slack as you truly didn't know how to respond to this phenomenon. Yuuri stayed silent. After a period of silence, you impersonated a table flip and then proceeded to swiftly jump over the counter of the rink, grab some skates, and head into the locker area to tie them on. Yuuri stuttered again.
"O-Oi! What are you doing?" He said to you. You stopped and half turned to him, a smile on your lips.
"Well, isn't it obvious? I've gotta catch up to you and practice! Looks like me leaving you behind in competitions didnt mean much!" You said with a laugh, and with that you walked out of the room, Yuuri and Yuuko standing there in silence. Yuuri placed a fist in his hand in an assuring motion, and went to put skates on too, Yuuko following him.
The two of you practiced into the night.
-Ok I know it's 2 chapters in and there's still no Victor, but I promise you he'll be in the next chapter that'll be up by tomorrow if not sooner.
