"Hide! Get to the night stand!" Arthur whispered urgently. I quickly ran to the night stand and opened the door. I looked back at him and he nodded. I climbed in and shut the door and listened. "It's your fault!! I was fired because of you!" I heard my mother scream and next a loud slap. "Where is your sister, you worthless swine!" "She is at a friends house." Arthur said quietly but confidently. " Without permission!" My mother screamed and I heard a loud thud and the sound of a body hit the ground. I silently cried and buried my head into my knees. I heard my moth scream some choice words and kick my brother. He quietly took the rest of the beating. Mother picked something of the bed stand, my lamp. I plugged my ears, I didn't want to know what she would do next. I finally started to listen again when I felt my door slam and steps leave the house through the door.

"She's gone now. Come on out." I slowly opened the door and saw my brother standing again. My once beautiful pink porcelain lamp was shattered in a million little pieces on the floor. Arthur was bleeding, she had hit him on the head and a few piece were stuck in his hair. I started crying harder and ran to him. He embraced me and picked me up and set my on my bed. "Don't move, I don't want you to get cut. I'll be back." he left my room to fetch the vacuum. I slowly stopped crying and looked at the ground. Three drops of blood sat next to a small puddle of blood. I looked at it for a while and stood up. I slipped my slippers on that were next to my bed and walked out to find Arthur.

He was at the bottom of the stairs with the vacuum and he said," Clare, I told you to stay. I don't want you to get hurt. He was covered in blood now. "You need to sit down. Your bleeding, bad. Let me take the vacuum, I'll take care of it. Don't fall asleep though." He looked at me and said ok. I took the vacuum and went upstairs as he followed. He sat on my bed and I vacuumed carefully. I finished quickly and put the vacuum away and when I came back I told Arthur to go shower, for it might help the bleeding stop.

"Are you hungry?" I asked him. "Sure." he replied calmly. His bleeding had stopped after his shower, like I thought it would. I went down stairs to find something to eat. I found some soup and heated it up and put it in two bowls. I brought it upstairs and gave his soup to him and sat down with mine." We need to get out of here." I told him. He took a deep breath and answered," We can leave now, after this. I have some money, we can go tho the store and-" I interrupted him with," Not leave and come back, I mean run away..."
