Becuase why not.

This is a continuation from the small excerpt from last chapter. If you didn't read it and now for some reason want to, go check it out. The excerpt is the bolded part.

THIS IS JUST A LARGER EXCERPT I LITERALLY HAVE MORE. BUT I WON'T BE POSTING EXCERPTS ANYMORE AFTER THIS I'M SORRY.

Alright here it is:

Claudia watched in awe as the two seemed to be performing a dance routine. It all looked so coordinated, the way they danced with each other. She could almost forget how deadly the situation was. She managed to notice the quick glance the vampire threw at her. Somehow, she caught his gaze before he looked away, and they just stared at each other for awhile before the man's weapon made dead contact with the vampire's face. Claudia just stared in shock as he fell to the ground. She continued to watch as he ran away and no one did anything about it.

"You're not going to go after him?" Claudia tried to refrain from shouting, but she always thought vampire hunters were persistent and never let dangerous vampires get away. How could he somehow let this vampire off the hook? She forced herself to stand so the man wasn't looking down at her.

"A thank you would be nice," The man remarked. Claudia didn't think much of him at this point. Whether he saved her life or not, this man had no excuse.

"I'm sorry. Thank you, sir. Now are you going to go after him?" She pushed for him to go after the vampire. The man made it obvious that he was not very pleased with this behaviour. The young girl standing beside him seemed to prefer to stay out of this.

"Look, you're young and don't look very experienced. I'm sorry you had to learn the hard way how risky this business is. Soon, you'll learn that going after vampires like him isn't important, and you'll do it the hard way again if you have to. Just know that no one's going to be around to save you the second time." And with that, he turned around and started to walk away. The small girl looked up at Claudia with great big hazel eyes full of sympathy.

"Well, maybe instead of lecturing me about it, you could teach me. I want to be able to save myself if my stubbornness gets me in a situation like that again." Claudia was upfront and honest. She knew she was difficult to deal with and she wasn't going to lie about it. She also wasn't going to lie about the fact that she needed help, even if it was from someone like him.

The man didn't stop. He continued to walk, pretending not to hear her. If he was going to be like this, did she really need his help? Claudia looked towards the little girl who refused to move from her spot between them. Her eyes darted back and forth, unsure of who's side to take.

"Father," The girl whispered. "She needs help. We can't just leave her." The man stopped in his tracks and turned around to face his daughter.

"Yes, we can, Krista. Come along, now. It's getting late." Though his eyes were soft, the man spoke to the little girl in a harsh tone. The girl, Krista, withheld and stood her ground.

"I'm not moving," Krista was visibly shaking. Whether or not it was because of the chilly night or because of her father, Claudia couldn't tell. She believed it may have been a combination of both, though.

The man did not know how to respond. He gave his daughter a guilty look and shot a resentful one at Claudia. All things aside, he was a good man. He was a good father who could not deny his daughter. At this point, there was no way he could possibly say no.

"My name is Cain Locke," The man spoke up after a few moments of silence. He started on his way towards Claudia and took a deep breath. "I'm sorry about my behaviour earlier. I hope we can get along." Cain thought for a moment before continuing. "Hey, kid. Do you have a place to stay?"
