When I awoke, we were pulling into the U- shaped drive way in front of the house. A lady--known as Ms. Paula, escorted me out of the car, grabbed my luggage, and took me to the front door. Mr.Maycomb said he would be back by dinner and drove off in the black cattilac. Ms. Paula opened the door and we walked in.
When I got into the house, I knew I wasn't alone. I looked up the grand staircase, made of a dark mahogany wood, to find a little blonde, topaz blue-eyed girl watching me. She noticed me looking at her and took off down the upstairs hallway. I looked up at Ms. Paula and she just smiled. "Don't mind Bonnie" She said to me. "She's just very shy". I nodded and looked back up at the stairs, half expecting her to have returned to watching us. But no, she seemed to have stayed where she had run off to. Ms.Paula told me to go up the stairs and straight down the hall to the last door on the left, and that was to be my new room. I nodded in acknowledgment and headed up the stairs. I slowly walked down the hallway and took in every detail. The sculptures, the light gold carpeting, the gold and beige wallpaper, everything! I reached the end of the hallway and turned to my left to see the door to my new room. It was a pretty door. Deep mahogany with a floral engraved golden doornob. I slowly placed my hand on the nob and turned it. Then the door opened.
The door must have opened quietly, as Bonnie was still playing with her dolls on the floor, unknowing of my entrance. That changed quickly as she dropped the dolls, jumped up and faced me all in a seconds grasp.
There we stood, 20 feet or more away, eyes locked on one another. Me trying to be reassuring, I took a step forward and tried to speak to ease her nerves. But she just ignored my attempt and ran passed me, quick as anything. I, of course chased her. Down the hall and stairs, through the kitchen and to the backyard until I could no longer run. I fell to the ground, exausted and upset that she wouldn't just let me talk to her. Suddenly, as I looked into one of the glass squares of the back door, I saw that my eyes were glowing. Glowing red. As I was looking, Bonnie appeared behind the door. Her eyes widened as she saw mine glow. She walked outside and I stood up. "Your.. your eyes?" she said in a small voice. "I.. I don't know" I said astounded. She just looked at me with her big blue eyes, then smiled a smile I didn't know she knew how to make. She hugged me tight and sat me down and explained everything. About who Mr. Maycomb was, who she was, what she could do, and so much more. I was shocked. I didn't know these things existed, let alone that I was one of them.
This was nine years ago.
