Chapter 3: Convincing Esther to Come Back

One week later, the two remaining junior detectives had failed to complete three assignments, and they ended up with twelve cuts and six bruises total. "Chief, we can't do these assignments without Esther," Nick said to the chief. "What do you want me to do? Track her down and you can convince her to come back to the crew." The two remaining junior detectives agreed to Chief Hill's plan, and they started to track Esther down. "It says she got a soccer game tonight at six o'clock," the chief was reading off the computer. "Thanks Chief. Let's get to that soccer game Lance, and convince Esther to come back."

  Nick and Lance went to their school's soccer game. "We're leading the game with the score three to two with nine minutes to go," the announcer said on the intercom. "Pass the ball Candace," Esther shouted.  Candace kicked the ball to Esther, and she scored a goal. "Well, look who it is," a voice said behind Nick and Lance. "Why the heck are you here Hector?"

  When Nick said that, Hector sat down and started to speak. "You can't tell Esther or anyone else," he said to the two junior detectives. "We're listening." When Hector began to speak, Nick and Lance's jaw dropped. "I have a crush on Esther Starter," Hector said. "You had a crush on her since when?" There were only fifty-nine seconds left, and the game was tied with both teams having four points. "I had a crush on Esther since my freshman year," Hector continued. "We'll keep this as a secret between us."

  Candace had scored the winning goal which ended the game five to four. "Nice work out there defending the goal Danny," Esther said while walking towards the coach. "Esther! Esther wait!" When Nick and Lance was running towards Esther, Nick tripped and grabbed Lance's collar while he grabbed Hector's jacket, and they fell out of the bleachers. "What are you guys doing here," Esther said surprised to see them.  "We want to convince you to come back to the crew because we can't do any assignments without you."

  Esther was a little bit stunned until she said something. "Tell Chief Hill that I'll be in on Monday," she said. "Okay. Now give us a group hug!" They all approached each other, and gave a group hug. "I'm so glad to be back with the crew," Esther said. The junior detectives laughed, and went their different ways until Monday afternoon.

Hector's Secret Love Confession 

  I really love Esther so much. I just don't know why I'm being a jerk to her. I want to be her boyfriend, or at least her best friend. I was a cool freshman, but when I saw her, I had a change of heart. I hope you accept my feelings Esther.

Danny's Secret Confession

  Esther has been my best friend since we were six-years-old. I've developed feelings for her since we were like thirteen. I've decided to keep my feelings on a low profile. She doesn't even know that I've been a junior detective in a different county since last year. I hope you know my secret Esther.

*By the way, Danny is Esther's teammate and also her friend that has a crush on her, and he's a junior detective in a different county. I thought this chapter would be a great time to tell everyone about this person.*
