Libra put up another picture on the wall. If he had still bothered to count, he would've found eighty seven pictures on the wall. Eighty seven pictures, some sketched, painted, but most taken on a camera. Eighty seven girls and boys. They moved, each telling part of the story behind it, before starting over, like a gif.
Each had a date, the earliest going back to 1485, a painting of a smiling girl portrayed. The most recent now was tacked at the top of the bunch, and showed a different girl and himself in front of the Eiffel Tower, only blocks away from where he was now.
Libra sighed, turning away from the collage on the wall. He surveyed his apartment, a cozy, quaint little thing. Unfortunately, the expenses weren't so little, as it had a beautiful view of the Eiffel Tower. Normally, the sight would comfort him, but not today.
That was where he had broken up with Pisces.
-------------------Two years earlier----------
The man's soft gasps slowly faded as Libra sucked the life out of him, literally. Sharp teeth digging into his thin skin, he held him down, until there was nothing left for him to take. He wiped his mouth, frowning at the mess he had made.
He hated cleaning up, but he had to, at least a little. Hoisting the young boy's body up, he threw it into an old dumpster. He frowned, glancing at the blood spill on the dirty alley floor. Since it was a back street, he hoped it would be a while before anyone discovered the body.
He cursed himself for being so careless, and began to walk away when he heard a voice. It was weak and frail, echoing off the dark alley walls. The boy squinted to see in the shadows, his eyesight adjusting gradually. There, a girl stood, no older than fifteen, leaning heavily on the dumpster he had just used.
"What are you?" She whispered, staring down at the blood trail. Libra had no words to answer, his mouth gaping like a fish. His mind was racing through ways to get rid of her. Sucking her dry, cracking her skull on the wall, the list went on and on.
Thankfully, she simply collapsed, deciding for herself. Libra sighed, glad he didn't have to kill her. While he was willing to do it, he still felt guilty every time. Thinking quick, he decided he would have to take her home and convince her she had not seen what she had thought she saw.
And with that, he scooped her up in his arms and sprinted back to his apartment.
-----------------One year earlier-------
"Breakfast is ready!" The girl chimed from the kitchen. She hummed to the faint song on the radio, all in French as she flipped the bacon. Flipping her short brown hair, she turned towards the table.
Libra, still barely awake, stumbled from his room, flopping onto the table. His blonde hair was a mess, his dark eyes muddled. The brunette simply laughed, piling bacon and eggs onto a plate. They sizzled angrily before cooling, sending off delicious smells.
Delicious that is, to a human.
Libra hid his frown, as he had for about a year now. Unfortunately he was becoming quite good at it. He loved Pisces, he did, but he had forgotten how hard it was to pretend to be human. Choking down food before throwing it up in the bathroom, re-learning to sleep during the night, wearing the contacts, it was exhausting.
Like usual, he would eventually have to shut it down. Thinking this, he couldn't look at Pisces and fake a smile. All the hope she held, so unlike his own head. He had lost most of his hope for humanity itself a long time ago. But little things with her made eternity just a little better.
Since the day in the alley, he had brought her back with only the intention of fooling her mind and healing her up. But when she woke up, he had gotten attached, just like all the other times. He knew he should've said goodbye a while ago, but instead, he had committed himself to a relationship with her.
