Chapter 2
The next morning Ramona came over for coffee with Salix and I around nine o'clock. Ramona was beautiful and fit, the blonde hair she use to have was dirty blonde now, her hair was shoulder length and up in a ponytail. She was one of the bravest women I've ever known in my life, and my closest friend. After we returned to the Nation from defeating Carter she was named along with us to be leader. Protection sector was changed into the characteristic of bravery because that's what she was. She protected Salix and I, and the rest of the Nation, at the risk of her own life. For her to go against the government and completely betray especially with the position she was in. She's the only one I can think of to have the job of being leader.
"Hey, I wanted to talk to you about Dax." Salix took a sip of his coffee. "It's about him deciding." We were all sitting at the round wood table in the kitchen, Salix set down his cup of coffee and crossed his leg. You could hear the noise when he itched at the scruff that was growing out.
"His birthday is tomorrow, right?" She asks looking at today's date. "Time flies." She sighs.
I nodded my head, "I know. He wants to commit now, you know Dax, he's always been so committed to joining you, I think he's anxious."
"He still has another day to really think it over." She leans back in the chair.
"We know, he just really wants to join bravery, join you. He's certain." Salix says sternly.
"Well," she thought. "I guess I could take him under my wing, he can join the competition in being my successor." She started to chuckle. "The kids want to make their decision early too." She says referring to her children.
"They still have three more months though don't they?" I ask.
"Yeah. I think I'll let them though." She smiled. Ramona and her husband, our friend, Felix, had a set of twins, a boy and a girl, three months after Dax was born. They named them Delta and Ryder. They also has a son a year younger, nearly the same age as Syrus, named Archer. Ramona and Felix were constantly over the house, especially when the kids were so young, they're the closest things to family my children will ever know. I didn't have anyone else, just like Salix didn't have anyone in his family left. We all simply just have each other, Ramona is the godmother to all three of my children and they treat her as such.
"What're they choosing?" Salix asks about Delta and Ryder.
"They both want to choose bravery. Go into work with me. Top three pass to go into work with me. I can take all three of them on as apprentices, no doubt they'll be top three of the class." She says certain of her prediction.
"That'd be great. I'm glad Dax has the opportunity to work along side you, really thank you." I smile and touch her hand.
She smiles back at me. "Archer wants to be wisdom, he's pretty determined on that. All I ask in return is if you give him that opportunity, help train him."
"Of course." I nod my head.
Later that day we gathered Dax, Delta, and Ryder and committed them to bravery. This will mean intense training for years, learning how to protect the walls, people, fight crime, stop fires, use weapons, governmental missions, and learn and secure the outside. I've never been so proud of Dax and the man he's become. He's just like Salix and I, he's selfless, heroic, brave, I nearly cry when I watch him, knowing he's all grown up.
*DAX'S POV*
My mother threw a party after Delta, Ryder and I were sworn in to bravery. Becoming Ramona's protege, well at least us three, or at least are competing for it, is an honor. The top three of the class move on and then that's when we start actually training with Ramona, then she'll pick her top student, although I may have an unfair disadvantage against her own children but, I know our government isn't corrupt. Not to mention I do also have the leaders of wisdom and peace on my side though, my parents. Some days were tough being the children of Salix and Avery Bailey, Syrus and Sage would agree too. My siblings were different from me, my whole life I've noticed that. Syrus was very independent and argumentative. Sage definitely is going to follow after my father, she looks up to him as if he's God Himself. She's very peaceful, I couldn't see her anywhere else than beside my dad. My parents left a big legacy for us to follow, they saved and bettered the Nation, everyone expects the next generation of Grayson-Bailey children to do great things. Delta and Ryder always understood how I felt in a way, I mean when your mother is Ramona, a lot of people fear you, their mother is a governmental leader that fights crime, throws herself in danger, leads the Nation to safety.
