As Lawliet entered through his front door, Cory sitting quietly in the driveway in case something went wrong, he smiled at Viv as he entered and forced himself to hug her hello. "I'm just going to put my bag in the study, but I will be out soon to join you for dinner. It smells amazing!" I hate myself for saying that, even if it's just for show. The study lies untouched from that morning when he was last there, papers scattered and bins full to the rims. It was a mess, yet still Lawliet opened his bottom desk draw, pulling out several of the spare surveillance cameras and bugs that would be able to go unnoticed in the corners of every room. First the study, cameras in two the corners and transmitters set up randomly where possible. Lawliet then goes to eat with his wife, making small talk, yet never able to look her in the eyes. Could it really be you? We'll soon see...
"I'll just be in the shower, okay, honey?" Viv's head was leaning out from their bedroom door, and she quickly disappeared inside the ensuite. Lawliet leaped up from the table and placed bugs everywhere in the house. The vents were full of cameras aimed at perfectly strategic angles. There were enough that there would be minimal blind spots, and whatever were to happen would happen live stream on film, broadcasting directly to Cory. Lawliet sat and waited for his wife to return, thinking what words would work best. He ended up winging it, for in less than ten minutes he felt a pair of hands gently rubbing his shoulders. Inwardly cringing. He stood and looked down into her eyes. She smiled through her eyes, genuinely happy.
"Tell me, Viv..." He paused, working his mouth up to saying the words out loud.
"Yes, Law?" Her eyes were wide with curiosity and Lawliet smiled sweetly, trying again.
"Tell me, Viv... Why did you murder Jordan?" A gasp was all the noise that Viv could make as she took a step backwards.
"W-what...?" Tears were welling up in her eyes as she took another step backwards, away from the man accusing her murder. "You... You think I did what?" Her breath became heavier, and Lawliet continued to smile sweetly.
"You killed Jordan, like you killed Neil," Lawliet sang the words with a bigger smile on his face. Admit it, admit it for the cameras, sweetheart! "Oh, now, don't look so shocked. You know what I mean. Why deny it further? You are only making me hate you more." Lawliet takes a step further. It's you, it's you and we all know it!
"Stop, Law, this isn't funny. How dare you say that? How could you say that so nonchalantly? Do you really mean it?"
"Of course I do, because you really meant it, too. Didn't you, Viv? Didn't you mean to kill our son? Didn't you mean to take him away from me, thus also stripping away any love I held for you?" Viv started crying, shaking her head furiously, her hands trying to keep him away. "You did! There was proof! You meant it, so listen to what I mean now." A smile danced on Lawliet's face. You will pay for what you did to him! Admit it to the cameras. We just need you to say it. Say it, and I can have you in a cage forever! "I mean business!" A hand reached out and grasped Viv by the neck, holding her to the wall she backed herself against. Any moment now she should confess. Any moment now. As Viv struggled to breathe, her hands trying and failing to pull Lawliet's hands from her neck, all she could do was cry. Had he really accused her for being the cause of Neil and Jordan? She didn't know how he could say such things, and tears were the only thoughts escaping her head.
"I love you, Law..." she whispered, hoping he would hear her. Cory, seeing everything that was happening, had called the police and ran into the house with a gun, heading for the living room where Viv was pressed against a wall. Lawliet heard the front door being thrown open. No! Any second now she will confess! He applied more pressure to her neck as Cory entered the house. Why isn't she saying anything? Why won't she admit it? Why doesn't she just put me out of my misery? This woman is cruel, and she doesn't deserve the comfort of a cage... she deserves to be faced by the two people who can hold her accountable for everything she has done to them. She should be at mercy of Neil and Jordan, not a cell of cozy confinement.
Cory aimed his gun at Lawliet's head, standing in the doorway of the living room. As soon as he moved into view of Viv and Lawliet, he screamed as he was forced to fire the gun at his best friend. Just before Lawliet pounced on Cory, he fell to the ground in a hellish figure sadness, his life gone within moments. Cory looked over to the far wall where Viv was being held earlier and started crying. It's all my fault; I knew this was bad... I knew this was bad! Cory collapsed, crying in the same position on the sofa as Lawliet did less than 8 weeks ago, and he fell asleep hugging his knees to his chest. How could this be happening? What went wrong? Sirens could be heard, quickly closing the distance between them and the Deirdre house.
Cory didn't notice when it when he was lifted and guided away from his friends. Detective Grell approached Officer Zac Cory tentatively and put a hand on his shoulder. "We need to talk. There, uh, was something I didn't tell you or the rest of the team."
"Save it, Grell. I know what you are going say, but I don't need to hear it as I've heard it before. I know that you covered up evidence for the Smite case, and I hope you get your badge removed because of it. But are you sure that it was her, not Drew Smite?" A sigh followed a long, questioning glance, yet Detective Grell pushed up his glasses and swallowed.
"How did you...?" another questioning glance followed by a shameful exhale of breath. "Yes, I did more research among the covered up evidence and... we think that Viv Deirdre is directly linked to the murder of Jordan Smite. Now it would seem we have more problems, but as it would seem," the detective paused to look at the officers carrying out the cameras and bugs, "We will know what actually happened... Did Lawliet know? About the covered up evidence, that it?" Cory swallowed and nodded.
"It's my fault. I told him, and said he just wanted her to confess. I was so stupid..." Tears were welling up in his eyes as he thought about what could have been avoided. Detective Grell puts a hand on his shoulder and passes him a letter. Briefly skimming through, Corry knew what they were trying to say. A well-written letter from Viv Deidre, confessing to the murder of Jordan.
"She said she was not well. I believe her. She goes into detail about why; about her dreams and hallucinations. She said, 'I see his face in Jordan's. I see Neil in Jordan and he wants me to die with him. And I want to obey, but I know that I don't owe that luxury to myself. I just hope that one of you reading this will do it for me.' She was a very sick woman, but now you know why she didn't confess to her Lawliet... Cory, I'm so sorry that this has to happen to you." The detective left Cory to himself, still staring at one spot on the wall. Completely zoned out and ignoring the rest of his surroundings, he begged the skies and the oceans and all other powers on earth for some sort of forgiveness on what he felt he had done to the Deirdre family. It's me that's killed them. Me and their home-grown insanities. Cory laughed lightly at the chaos around him. Red and blue lights flashing everywhere as he stepped outside, stretchers were used to carry out the lifeless bodies of his friends, and in one resounding thought, Cory knew he could do nothing about the fire in the Deirdres that burnt each other out.
