I looked down at my lap and anxiously twiddled my thumbs. 1 day, 23 minutes and 3 seconds. It read. The clock kept ticking.Ticking away the seconds. Sitting in the coffee house I looked around. So many people already found their soul mates. Not me. Lila found her soul mate; turns out it was our best friend. How crazy is that? I sipped my coffee. This guy I was seeing had the same time as me but his watch broke so he can no longer have a soul mate. Boo hoo. I never liked him anyways. The minutes ticked down and soon it was at 0 days, 20 minutes and 5 seconds. I looked out the window. It was raining. I was only 16 of course. The government had us countdown to meet our soulmates. But why? Nobody knows. I walked outside heart pacing. 15 minutes, 23 seconds. I looked around and sat down at a table. The rain cleared up, people are out. My phone rang. "Hello?" "Is this Audrey?" "Yes.. who is this?" "Nick. I think I'm your soulmate." I gasped. What? I glanced at my wrist. "Do you have 5 minutes and 3 seconds on your wrist?" "Yeah. Are you at Java Coffee House?" "Yeah.." "I'm across the street." I looked up and saw a guy in blue running across the street. I screamed "No!" But it was too late. Blue was stained with red. I ran into the street not caring about anything around me. Blue eyes clashed with grey ones. I took in his beauty. A small scar on his chin to the beautiful blonde hair now smeared with dirt and blood. His beautiful blue eyes now struck with fear. He smiled. I knew that smile. My best friend in sixth grade. He moved away years ago. "Hey Audrey." I smiled through my tears. My fingers raked through his beautiful hair. "Hey." "I knew it was you. Always did." I laughed through my tears and saw his last breath. I placed my head on his chest and cried. I looked at my wrist. 0 days, 0 minutes and 1 second.
