chapter two. the fire nation

Prince Calum and Princess Nova walked towards the docks with a guard on each of their sides, four in total. Nova, the more chatty of the twins, talked with her guards as they walked to the docks and Calum walked silently, but tinkered with something with something in his hands.

A small ships was tied to the otherwise empty dock and there were people getting off. Nova ran to embrace Téa, Ronnie, and Mark, animatedly talking to them.

"Thanks for the help!" Nova heard a familiarly sarcastic voice and turned to see Dale, Flynn, and Reese carrying bags off the boat.

The princess's face lit up in delight and her curls bounced behind her as she ran to embrace Dale and the twins. "I thought you guys weren't coming for another three days!" Nova exclaimed.

"We were, and then this idiot followed a dog shaped cloud," Dale pointed at Reese, "and we got caught in a storm-"

Nova snorted, "Sounds like Reese."

"And somehow we ended up on the same island as the Avatar and got here earlier than expected."

"Can you ask the maids to prepare 3 more rooms, Adhara?" Nova asked the dark haired guard on her right. The small girl nodded and walked towards the castle.

"Question, why are we even carrying this stuff, it's not ours," Dale asked, dropping the three bags she was carrying.

"Because we were threatened," Reese replied.

"You're not even doing anything!" Flynn exclaimed dropping the two bags he was carrying.

The blue eyed boy gasped at his twin. "Holding a dog leash is very hard work!"

Nova snorted, "Even I work harder than that."

"Can you get the bags, and the dog, and bring them into the castle?" Calum asked he guards, Alex and Kaden. They picked up the bags, took the dog leash from Reese, and walked back to the castle.

Reese looked at the one blonde guard remaining and smiled, "guess you're pretty tough if they think you can guard the both of them at the same time."

"Oh I could definitely kick everyone's ass here without my bow or my bending," the blonde girl said.

"I'm Reese," he put his hand out for her to shake.

"Imogen," the girl's petite hand was swallowed by Reese's hand and he got lost in her eyes as she smiled at him.

"Oi! Lavaboy!" Mark called for him as they started to make their way to the castle. "Stop making heart eyes at the guard and let's go!"

Reese's face turned a bright red and ran after them, "I wasn't making heart eyes!"

"Yes you were," Dale said.

-

After they had lunch and took showers Dale suggested they go to the market and get new clothes. Flynn split off from the group, telling Reese to pick out his clothes, and looked for things to make a new first aide kit.

"How much are these?" Flynn asked the white haired, wrinkly faced man that was standing on the opposite side of the booth. The man looked at the printed smiley face bandaged Flynn held before telling him two coppers. Flynn paid the price with the money in his sack and turned from the booth with his change in hand.

"Oof!" the boy collided with a red haired girl and fell to the floor, his tin of bandages flew out of his hand and popped open and the five coppers of change he had dropped to the floor.

"I am so sorry!" he helped the red haired girl to her feet and started to collect the scattered bandages.

"Oh me too, I'm so sorry I wasn't watching where I was going," she handed him the tin and started to run away.

"Thank you!" he called to her. He turned to pick up his coppers and found them all missing. Flynn shrugged, the girl probably needed the money more than him anyways.

-

Reese put the clothes he just bought into his bag and walked down the street, looking for a place to get clothes for Flynn. His eyes caught on a stand selling bows and he slowed to look at them.

"You like archery?" he heard a voice beside him and turned to see Imogen looking at him for an answer.

"Yeah, my dad taught me how to shoot when I was little while Flynn and mom would heal." He ran his hand over a dark bow and looked out the price. "Not today," he said and put the bow back down, it cost 3 gold pieces.

Reese moved away from the shop and started to look water tribe clothes, Flynn always seemed to like those better than the fire nation clothes, Imogen followed. "Aren't you supposed to be guarding Nova right now?" Reese asked.

"She usually ditches me as soon as she's out of Calum's sight. She can protect herself just fine, but Calum likes her to be safe."

"Why does she need the other girl then, Adhara?" Reese asked as he picked up some shirts and pants that looked like they would fit Flynn.

"Well, Nova and Adhara have never confirmed this, but I think they're hooking up." Imogen said. "If I'm right some of the other guards owe me big bucks, plus they'd be a really cute couple."

Reese saw Flynn walk away from a stand with a smile on his face and an instrument in hand. "Flynn look at the clothes I got you!" Reese called to his brother

Dale and Mark walked around the market, talking and trading ridiculous stories of their friends. "Why am I not surprised that Reese thought a wolf was a big dog?" Mark asked as Dale she bought clothes and stuff them into a bag.

"That kid was dumb," Dale said.

"How much you wanna bet Reese and that blonde guard will get together?" Mark asked.

"I don't know, Reese is pretty terrible at talking to girls." Dale said.

"I'll bet you three silver pieces they'll be together by the time we leave the castle," Mark said.

"You are so on!" Dale shook Mark's outstretched hand to close the deal.

Once they unclasped hands Dale turned to a booth selling pots and pans. "We should get a new kettle, because you set the other one on fire."

"I don't even know how that happened! The kettle was flame retardant!"Mark exclaimed.

"You're such a disaster in the kitchen I'm surprised they even let you boil water in the kettle." Dale said. She picked a small black kettle. "Is this disaster proof?" she asked the man behind the booth.

He he chuckled, "my tyrant of a nephew couldn't destroy it, so yes."

"I'll take it!" Dale said, and paid for the kettle. "If I let you hold this, promise you won't wreck it?" she asked Mark.

"The guy just said it's disaster proof!" Mark exclaimed.

"Yeah, but he didn't say it was Mark proof," Dale replied, but let him hold the kettle anyways.
