I woke up early the next morning. I walked out quietly as I knew everyone was still asleep in their bedrooms. Except for Jack. I could smell his strong, florescent-herbal scent outside. I followed that intriguing scent, and found him sitting in a large tree surrounded by random flowers that were beautifully nourished by the little power left the earth could give. I watched a moment as he gazed upon the forest spread. Jogging over, I climbed up the tree and sat on a separate branch and looked down at him. He didn't look up.

"So... I guess you're leaving now?" He asked in a soft whisper. I glanced out to the forest and scrunched up my face. "I haven't checked on Jason yet. He's still sleeping." I replied. There was a long pause. "Aren't you affected by the sun?" He asked suddenly. The tacky question made me giggle. "Really? You would ask that? Come on. That's just classic. I'm not going to shimmer in the sunlight, and I'm definitely not gonna burn." I said as if he didn't have a decent mind. I looked up at the green leaves in the branches above me and sighed. "I guess the only difference I know are... advanced hearing, vision, superhuman speed, extreme intelligence, extremely sensitive smell and night vision. It's actually not that bad." I snickered. Jack chuckled in response. "What about flying? Can you fly?" He continued to spill questions. I didn't mind since he was depressed. "I don't know. I haven't thought about trying it; it seems a bit silly." I waved my hand. I sighed. "I don't like the new me. Is it because I don't want to be a leader? Be part of this mess? I don't know." I scratched the back of my head. Jack didn't reply. He only hung his head away to avoid contact. I looked back up at the soft orange baby blue sunrise. The soft clouds blanketed the horizon, blurring the sun. A sudden gust of wind blew past us, and a strong scent blew across my nose. I looked back at the house. "What's wrong?" He asked. I frowned in disappointment. "...Jason's awake." I mumbled. I stood up on the tree branch with perfect balance. "I'm going to check on him. If he's good to go, we'll be leaving." I said without hesitation. Before Jack could open his mouth, I jumped down from the branch and walked back in the house.

Walking upstairs and opening Jason's bedroom door, I saw him lay there contently, staring at me with his sharp amber eyes. Walking towards him, I lifted his shirt to check the stitches on his chest. "You look like you're good to go. You feel better?" I asked. He took a deep, heavy breath. "Yeah." I nodded and slowly pulled out the stitches in his chest. Ignoring his whimpering, the thread lightly drifted on the floor. As Jason stood up, I avoided any eye contact with his face. He grunted irritably. "What do you want from me?" He asked arrogantly. With a sudden anger, I grabbed his throat and pinned him to a wall, slowly dragging him up from the ground. My eyes burned a fiery blue. "Don't.. you dare... ask me such a question... like I've done everything wrong, you son of a bitch. What do you want from ME, huh? You disappeared for two years, and showed up out of nowhere to turn me into a monster?! You can rot in the bitter ends of hell. I hate you. I wish you never existed... you walked out on us like we were an option-- like you didn't even needed us in the first place. You used us. You used me. You hurt me the most...! I want to kill you... over, and over, and over again." I snarled. Jason's eyes widened in fear. The smell of it came off him so strongly it burned my nostrils. Squeezing his throat until it started to crack, I let him drop to the ground. Heaving heavily, I watched Jason grip his throat helplessly as he crouched forward before my feet. As he frantically gasped for air, he looked up at me with a cold glare and weakly stood on his feet. "Y-you cold-hearted bi--" "Say it, and see if I don't rip your goddamn head off between your shoulders." I growled. He returned the response with a stare that seemed as if something wasn't right. "When did you become so merciless?" He asked, his voice cracking. I grimaced and walked away from him. I opened the bedroom door. "You ask stupid questions I wouldn't bother asking. We're going now." I said. Before I moved, I glared back at him. "If you don't do what I say, I'll make sure your death'll be caused by no one else but me. You stay by my side, and you don't try to escape. I have no more mercy or sympathy for you anymore. I'd be more than happy to end your life if you try anything negative in my perspective." I said, and walked out the door.

With Jason walking beside me, the girls peeked out of their bedrooms and watched me go. Glaring back at them, they quickly closed their doors and hid back in their rooms. Walking downstairs, Jack walked through the kitchen porch from the backyard just in time to see Jason by my side. His expression was noticeable; the eyes wide and frowned with disappointment. Walking up to him, I gave him a gentle hug. I put my mouth close to his ear and whispered something to him before I went to leave. "This is only for your safety. Please don't try to find us." I said, and looked into his eyes up close. Nodding, I walked away from him, and out the door. Stretching as I breathed in the morning air, I turned to Jason. "So where do we go?" I asked. He didn't look at me. "We have to go North." He mumbled. "One thing I hate is the cold. How far?" "Alberta." I turned my head, shocked to hear the name. "We're going to Canada?" I asked. Jason only nodded. "That's where the rest of them are. And that's where the real battle's supposed to begin. I paused for a moment. "Wait a minute." I said. Jason looked back at me. "What?" He asked. "If... if I'm the Alpha of the vampires... is there an alpha for the zombies?" I asked. Jason thought for a moment. "There might already be an Alpha among the zombies. The vampires agreed that the Alpha is a mutant with florescent green eyes." He explained. "One of the vampires reported about two months ago saying they witnessed a large deformed muscular rotting figure eating a pile of dead bodies in a parking lot, so we're all suggesting it must be the alpha." He said, and nodded to himself to clarify. I didn't reply. "Anyway, its faster to Alberta if we fly." He said, and jumped. He floated in the air. "Fly...?" I said, flabbergasted by what I was seeing. "Yeah. Just jump and just navigate yourself." He explained. I took a deep breath and made a leap in the air. About 8 seconds in, I haven't hit the ground. "There you go. Now let's get going." He said, and flew. Uncontrollably smiling, I couldn't help but speed through the piercing air with the rush of adrenaline. This wonderful... free feeling. Amazing.

As we flew for about an hour in the blue, warm sky, I suddenly heard whispering. I stopped where I was to and listened. "Did you hear that?" I asked. "...Do I have to agree to keep my ass alive?" He asked sarcastically. I grumbled and looked away. "You got a free speech and mind. You can speak how you wish." I said nicely. For once anyway. Jason looked at me with a thoughtful expression, but quickly turned hard. We still haven't moved from our location. The whispers slowly grown to conversations. It almost sounded like a man and a bunch of girls. I squinted my eyes in suspicion. I scratched my head in irritation and flew the opposite direction we were supposed to be going. "You know what? Fuck it, I'm going back." I yelled through the deafening wind. Jason struggled to keep up with me. "What? You said you wouldn't go back to them. You can't now! You can't turn back." He yelled back. I made a naive "tsk" sound and flew faster. My cheeks rippled in the wind. "Who cares?! This is an apocalypse; you can't keep promises anymore." I replied. Jason stopped flying and looked at me. "Do you... care for Jack?" He asked suddenly. I stopped and looked back at him, relatively confused. I suddenly bursted into laughter like he told a horrible joke. "Friend wise. I don't have feelings for anyone, so don't think you're special--because you're not." I replied bluntly. With a response with a disgusted face, we flew back to the house without another word.

Making it back, I walked up to the front door and turned the doorknob. As I opened it, a figure charged at me out of nowhere and pierced me straight through the heart. Instantly puking blood, I gripped on to the steak shakily and looked at the figure with an unsteady vision. Before I fell to the ground losing my consciousness, I saw sure enough, it was Emily.
