"Yeah. We... X-Rayed your brain.

"And?" I ask impatiently.

"You have head trauma."

I turn to look at Alex. He looks away from me, but he still squeezes my hand to give me comfort.

"You can pick up your meds on the way out." The doctor hands Alex my prescription.

Why... why did he give them to Alex?

He grins and thanks the doctor. "Sweet! Okay, let's go pick up your meds! Apparently, two a day. None of this four crap, got it?"

I roll my eyes. "Okay, mom." I hold the door open for him as we walk back to George's car. I haven't forgotten his promise, but I'm saving it for when we have an audience.

"I don't think we should tell everyone yet," I whisper.

He freezes by my side. "W-why not? You know what, yeah I'll respect your wishes."

"I'm just saying, how funny would it be to surprise them?"

"Well, but, everyone else is pretty open about dating. Like Maria told everyone," he points out tactfully.

"No I know, that's why it will work," I grin.

Alex starts to say something when my phone suddenly goes off. He glances down. "Speak of the devil. Maria's calling you."

I pick up. "Hey," I say, dramatically quiet.

"Hey, guess what?" Maria copies equally dramatically.

"What?"

"I'm officially allowed back in class tomorrow!"

"Nice!" I yell. "I'm leaving the hospital right now. Again."

"Whoa, okay, bad news? Because I had like this good-news-bad-news thing worked out. If you want to go first, go ahead."

"Wait what's the bad news?" I ask slowly.

She groans. "The bandage doesn't come off soon enough. I can't wear dresses! Have you seen me in pants? Not a good combo."

I laugh. "I'm sure it'll be fine."

"It's been like a year. Anyway, good news is that I've booked an all exclusive trip for you and one roommate, and everyone else we've invited, to a cabin!" Maria fake claps.

Eliza yells something from afar. After Maria and Eliza argue quietly, she clears her throat. "Do you and Alex want to come to... Peggy's winter cabin?"

I look at Alexander. "Do we want to go to the Schuyler cabin?"

"Oh, um... Maybe?" he hesitantly says.

"When?" I ask Maria.

"They kick us out of our dorms for breaks... So winter break."

"Oh cool. Well I am NOT going to South Carolina over break, so... yeah. We'll come."

"Wait, what if I wanted to go to my old home?" Alex protests.

"Oh. Hold on. Yeah? Do you want to? Winter break is next week so you'd better decide quick." I point out.

Alex bites down on his lip. Then, he shrugs. "I don't know. Give me time."

"Maria, we'll get back to you on this. Bye!" I hang up.

Washington says nothing as we get out of his car.

"Thank you," I say graciously.

Alex shrugs. "You're the best, sir!"
