C.J.

I had just gotten out of bed and I already felt miserable. I heard the not-so-faint shouting of my parents downstairs as I got up and ready. I heard my brother, Jared, yell he was leaving and shut the door. He would be driving himself to school, lucky him. I shivered thinking about the crowded bus I would have to take.

I walked downstairs, avoiding the argument my parents were having the best I could. I opened the cabinet and wasn't surprised to see we had next to nothing, just a few bags of chips and canned foods. I guess I would just get lunch at school.

I sighed and went over to the couch to relax for a little bit, before I had to catch the bus. I heard my mother snap one final word before stomping into the room and heading towards me.

"What the hell are you doing? Have you eaten yet?" She practically yelled at me. I sighed and answered in a flat tone, "I am relaxing before I have to go catch my bus. No, I haven't eaten yet. We have no breakfast food in the pantry, and there are no fruits or vegetables. I can't buy anything, I have no money. We'll have to get some groceries soon." I finished, looking at my fingernails and bracing myself to be yelled at.

"Don't you talk to me like that! You lazy slob! Be more like your brothers, get some shit done! I oughta-" I let her go on for a while, before checking my clock. I walked to the door and opened it. "Where do you-" I cut off my mom. "Bye." I slammed the door shut.

I walked to the bus stop, and to my surprise the bus was leaving. I panicked, and started running. I guess my bus driver either didn't see me or didn't care, the bus kept going. I stopped running when I realized it wouldn't stop for me. I slowed down and began walking to school. It wouldn't be too bad, but it wouldn't be nice either.

I finally got to the school, and as I walked in the bell rung. I sighed in frustration, and opened the door to the office. I went over to the small machine in front of the desk, and I filled out the tardy slip. There was no option for missing the bus, so I just pressed "overslept." I didn't care anymore.

I walked with leisure to my first period class, I was already late. Little to my surprise did I see my upperclassmen, obviously skipping. One of them smirked when he saw me.

"Well if it isn't Elmo!" He sauntered over to me. I shrunk down a little, and hoped it would end quickly.

"What's wrong? Or are you just a pussy?" He smiled, and tugged on my ears. I closed my eyes tightly. Just go away!

"Who do you think you are?" A voice rang. I turned and was surprised. A tall girl, with short brown hair and glasses stood there. She had a violin case at her side, or was it a viola?

"Leave him alone." She demanded firmly. I shook my head. She shouldn't get messed up with this.

"And what are you gonna do 'bout it, four eyes?"

She sniffed and stepped forward, before sending him the birdie. He growled and lunged at her, and she ran towards me. Shoving her instrument and backpack in my arms, she sped in the other direction towards the office. I knew the boys would get in trouble. I set her stuff down and watched the boys chase after her. She ran into the office, and two teachers came out to get the boys. They sent me an angry expression, before being forced into the office.

The girl came towards me, grabbing her stuff.

"Thanks." I said, almost speechless. She nodded and smiled at me. My eyes widened at that smile, it was so familiar.

"No problem. My names Maya, next time those boys bother you run to a teacher okay? Now I gotta go deal with these boys. See you 'round." She walked to the office and walked in with a hard expression on her face.

I got to my first period (finally) and gave my teacher the note. She excused me, but gave me a look like she wouldn't do it again. I didn't care though, all I could think about was that girl.

Her smile was like mine. The one I put on. The one that showcased false happiness.

It was a smile that held back tears.

The day was over, and I was trying to find her. Who was that girl? Why did she help me, a loser? I spotted her, she was talking to a guy. He had long hair, almost as long as hers, but it suited him. She laughed at something he said, before waving good bye to him and walking up the steps of a bus. I ground my teeth and sighed. I'll just have to find her another day.

I turned to go towards my bus when I ran into someone. He had white hair, which had obviously been dyed, and blue eyes. Well, a blue eye. His other one was pale, and there was a scar over it that showed it had been injured in some way and no longer worked. I apologized, and he nodded briefly before continuing walking.

I grumbled and got on my bus. Taking out my phone, or iPod rather. I turned my music up high and closed my eyes, waiting for the bus to move.

When the bus came to the first stop I opened my eyes and grabbed my bag. Forcing my way down the aisle, I narrowly avoided being tripped and jumped onto the sidewalk. Glad to be out of the bus, I dreaded going back home.

Finally, I got to my door. Looking up at my house, I sighed and hoped that my mother wasn't home. I could listen to my brother, but if my mom was home I knew I would probably get yelled at. Taking a deep breath, I unlocked the door and walked in.

That was chapter three! Honestly guys we think this is gonna be a good story. What do you think?
