A loud knocking wakes me up.
"Get up kids," Kurt calls to us.
Trey and I must not have moved much last night because he is still curled against me and I'm still holding Noah in front of me. The only difference is his arm is now snaked around my waist.
I smile softly as I feel him shift behind me.
Noah must've been woken when Kurt banged on the door, because he is now crying.
I sigh as I sit up and check his diaper. Sure enough it needs a change. I do the job as quickly as I can.
I change into a jacket and jeans and head to the kitchen where Elaine has cut up some apples for everyone.
"Thanks," I say as I take a few slices.
"Eat quickly, I want to get as far as we can today, it could snow any day now," Kurt says as he puts all of our backpacks in a pile.
We packed just about everything we could think of: food, water, clothes, first aid things, camping stuff, I think we even found a water filter. Basically we could open our own supermarket.
Noah has fallen back asleep in my arms, so I decide to put him in my scarf carrier.
Everyone listens to Kurt's commands, and finishes up their breakfast.
"Did you think to pack maps?" Trey asks.
"Oh, no, I did not," Kurt says hesitantly. It worries me to hear him sound so unsure, up until now he has always been so strong. I guess it just proves that he's human too.
"I saw some!" Lance shouts in excitement.
"Where?" Kurt asks.
"There were some in the gas station," Elaine answers for her son.
"I'll be right back," Kurt walks towards the door. "Trey, get everything ready to go."
Trey nods.
"You should really take someone with you," Elaine says in a worried voice.
"Skye?" Kurt looks at me expectantly.
"I can go," I say and stand up.
"Hold it," Kurt stops me, "probably best to leave him here," he nods at Noah.
I hesitate. I don't want to leave him here, but I'm sure Kurt is right.
"I'll take him," I feel Trey's hand on my back. "I won't take my eyes off him."
For some reason I trust him. I take the scarf off of myself and give it and Noah to Trey.
"Let's go," Kurt says as he steps out the door.
"See you soon," I say to everyone and run out the door to follow Kurt.
We make it to the gas station in about fifteen minutes.
"How far do you think we'll get?" I ask, speaking for the first time since we left.
"Not far," he says honestly.
I breathe in and out as my heart sinks.
