Chapter 1: California Love

"A Kali I dare you to go over there and steal Nip's hat" My best friend sky dared me.
We were outside on her front porch bored out of our minds.
The guys were across the street talking 'grown man stuff'.
You're 18, your not grown, or a man for that matter.
"Ard" I stood up dusting my shorts off. "Watch he kill you!" she laughed
"If he could catch me" I mumbled walking across the street
"What you want Kali?" No other than YG had to say something.
"Dang no love?! Ard man" I laughed
"Naw no love" he playfully mugged me "Cool no love lost then!" I snatched Nipsey's hat running across the street. "Give me my hat punk" Nip yelled
"Nope" I popped the letter P
"See y'all play too much!" YG yelled
"Shut up you just mad cause no body wanna play with Yo stankin' booty ah!" Sky defended me of course giving him her famous mug. I busted out laugh
"Got Yo ugly ah!" I ran in circles putting Nip hat on my head. All the guys started laughing while YG sat back being mad. Gotta learn how to stop talking things to heart baybay.
"Me sorry YG" I went over to him
"Yea whatever" he mumbled
"Aw" I made a baby face, Nipsey put his arm around me and we started to joke around. I seen a brown skinned figure with a black hoodie on walking up the street.
"Here come Kendrick" Kid pointed out. Kendrick Is probably the most quietest person out of all of us. He's also the smartest, I find him so interesting. I have the biggest crush on him, but I never really acted on those feelings because...well I just never really acted on them. I think I'm too...childish but I use that term loosely.
"Wassup Lamar" Nipsey dropped his arm from around me to dap him up.
"Peace" Kendrick replied snapping after he dapped Nip up. He continued the action with all the guys, then stopping at me.
"How you doing?" he smiled lightly
"I'm fine. How are you" I returned the gesture
"Living." he smiled again, I just found his smile contagious
"Can I have a hug?" He asked. See he's so polite.
"Yes you may" I fell into his embrace he smelled so good...like Sean John. He rubbed my back in small circles resting his chin on my head, I'm that small compared to him. I tuned out all the laughing around me just listening to his heart beat at a constant rhythm. It soothed me in a way. I heard him chuckle making me release him with warm red cheeks.
"You're cute" He smiled pinching my nose making me blush even more.
"Stop" I said shyly
"You don't have to be shy around me, that's how all the other girls act..and you're so much more than them" he said. He always said simple things like that to me, but there not simple to me, there low-key kinda important. They even sometimes make my day. And the fact that he slip them out so effortlessly makes my heart smile.
"Okay" I said shyly again He smiled faintly taking my hand in his as we both sat on the steps. If you were a stranger you would probably think we're dating. But I'm putting that to bed, no we're not dating, but that doesn't change the love I have for him.
"What y'all do today?" he asked everybody
"Chilled" Nip replied
"Went to work" Kid stated.
Kendrick nodded wrapped his arm around me.
"What about you? What did you so?" he asked
"I went to school, and then work" I told him
"That's good" he said making me frown "What's good?" I asked with a raised eyebrow
"That you're in school, getting an education" He said
"I mean I guess" I mumbled
"No there's no I guess, keep yo lil butt in school" he laughed
I nodded my head linking my fingers with his.
"What did you do?" I asked
"Went to work, and stopped by my moms" he mumbled looking at the ground. Kendrick's parents are the funniest, down to earth type of people. "How was that?" I found myself smiling "It was cool, they were preaching about me finding a girl" he smiled
Him saying that made my ears stick up like bunny ears.
"Oh. What did you tell them?" I asked lowly
"I told them I have this one kid in mind, but I'll let then know when I know" he said smiling at me ...um I understand.
"I see" I smiled too Before he could even speak or respond a round of gun shots went off sending him to push me down. I heard a female scream, letting me know it was sky.
"Go in the house" Kendrick told me. I hesitated because I didn't wanna leave him.
"Kaliah go in the house!" he shouted at me again. I rushed into Nipsey house, seconds later Sky entered the house with tears running down her face. I would say this is something that never happens, but that would be a lie. This is Compton California it always happens....Welcome to California!
