Tires screeching. The railings breaking. The car falling. The sounds, the images, the feeling of impending death.. they were all so vivid. They were both consumed with this intense fear of, not death, but losing the other. As they fell, he grabbed her hand and looked at her with an expression that said it all. With that one look, he confessed everything to her. With that one look, every romantic, sweet thought he ever had of her was expressed more clearly than he could have ever done with words.

With that one look, came a palpable sense of love.

The second the car hit the water, she shut her eyes and he squeezed her hand tightly, making sure never to let her go. The impact was enough to knock her out and send her into a deep sleep. He struggled with his seatbelt, racing against the clock to free himself. Once freed, he turned to her. He tried shaking her, pleading with her to wake up, but it was no use. He reached for her seatbelt, pushing and pulling, desperate to free her. When he heard the 'click' he almost sighed in relief. He grabbed the handle to her door and tried opening it but failed miserably. He tried his own door and was met with a disappointing fate.

He struggled, trying to find a way, as water slowly filled the car. He was almost out of time. It wasn't long before they were both fully submerged into the water. He held his breath and his heart sank when he realised that it was the end.. for both of them. He turned to face her and stole one last kiss. In that moment, he prayed not for himself, but for her.

"Save her.. that is all I ask of you. Just.. save her. I beg of you, please."

Right when he was about to lose all hope and faith, he finally felt the presence of God. Someone banged on his window, he turned to see a man struggling to get his door open. He stopped the man and turned his attention to her. He pointed at his bride, indicating and motioning for the man to save her instead. The man nodded and swam around the car to her door. The man pulled on her door, using all his strength to open it. With all the strength he could muster, he reached over and cranked the window down just enough for the man to open the door. The man grabbed her and dragged her out of the car, pulling her to safety.

With this last breath, he watched the love of his life live. His last thought was a quote from his favourite writer..

"I want you to remember me. If you remember me then I don't care if anyone else forgets." - Haruki Murakami.
