Chapter 6- The incident
I wake up startled by a horrible and terrifying sound coming from downstairs. I sit on my bed my legs falling from one side ready to run. I search for Brad where he had been when I felt a sleep, but he is nowhere to be seen.
I sit up and walk silently to the door; I get on my knees to check if I can see anything from between my door and the floor. I can hear the sound getting closer, I see from the edge of my vision a shadow a man like one. He is hidden behind a corner close to the stairs; I hear the sound again getting closer by the second. I feel my heartbeat on my fingertips and I feel the same sensation I had when I was at the beach, the dizziness and then disorientation, but this time I fight back the feeling.
I can see where the sound comes from, a creature, a sort of serpent shaped like creature small for the terrifying noise I had heard. I then see it open its mouth and I see row after row of needle sharp teeth and a putrid smell coming from its mouth. I see the serpent with blisters all around it and the hypnotizing red eyes.
Then I see a figure of a man coming from behind it a man not older than my father. I try to see its face clearer, but I can’t see much from where I am. The man and the serpent get closer to where I am not near enough when I see a flash of light coming from the corner I saw another man.
The man, Brad, caughts by surprise the older man with the serpent and now I see where the sound comes from tiny little serpents begin to scrawl out of its mouth. A scream gets trapped in my throat a fear so huge I never imagine I could ever feel.
Brads swings his sword toward the older man and I see it’s my teacher, Mr. Ralph, dressed in combat clothes, dark and easy to move in them. I see on his finger the same ring I saw in my dream and uneasiness grows inside me. While Brad fights with Mr. Ralph, I see the serpent getting closer to my door.
I know these creatures aren’t from this world so I don’t know what their powers could be so I create a mental block in my mind. I think of nothing, I find peace in that moment when I was with my mother in my dream. I think of the green pastures and keep that image in mind.
I see from under the door the serpent stops moving confused, and I believe my mental block is working.
Brad sensing the same confused feeling throws a dagger at the serpent with his free hand and the dagger lands on the serpent creature tail. The serpent wails with anger its red ayes getting redder as if they were made of fire. A sound emits from deep inside the serpent a scream I imagine, and the serpent gets free of the grasp of the dagger, ripping its tail open.
Brad focused on battling Mr. Ralph slashes with his sword, but Mr. Ralph is quicker and deflects the swings. Brad I see is frustrated from the crease on his forehead he then slashes at my teachers arm and then at his leg. Mr. Ralphs falls to the ground his lips pursed with pain.
The serpent is getting closer to the door and I have no doubt it can kill me from just looking at me. I feel this energy come from deep inside me I get up I put my hand on the door knob and open the door when I know it’s close enough. With strength I didn’t think I was possible of having I smash the door on the serpent head and after I crash my slipper on the serpents head.
The serpent disappears in a cloud of dust leaving no trail behind. Mr. Ralphs tries to get up, but Brad is fast and lands the hilt of his sword on the injure he made at my teacher leg. Mr. Ralphs grunts, keeping a scream in his throat, hate visible in his eyes and mist trickling on his fingers.
Brad shouts something to me, but I can’t make out his words. Then I realize he meant ‘water’ I run to the bathroom and grab a cup and let water fall in it from the faucet. I have no idea what water could work for, but then again I keep finding myself in totally not normal situations. I run to where Brad is he is still holding the hilt of his sword to Mr. Ralph’s leg.
“What do I do with this?” I ask confused as always.
“Give it to me” Brad says, he grabs the cup and drinks from it immediately my mouth hanging open.
“Seriously!!?” I say not understanding his need for water in this situation.
He swallows and keeps some water on the little cup.
“What are you doing here Lezar?” says Brad to Mr. Ralph and Mr. Ralph changes form to a younger man with crooked smile and black teeth visible from where I stand.
“How did you guess?” Mr. Ralphs, Lezar asks.
Brad presses the hilt of the sword deeper into the sword cut he made in the leg to Lezar. Lezar grunts and tries to get away from Brad.
“That is not the question Lezar, answer me, what are you doing here?” Brad asks anger noticeable in his usual soothing tone.
“You aren’t going even going to say hi after all this time or are you just angry I defeated you before with another task of yours. The poor little guardians don’t know how to complete a full task before us getting here and marking their job. You know I didn’t think they would send you of all guardians to this special gifted one, since you couldn’t save one of her family before. I am the one asking myself what you are doing here. But since niceties aren’t on my side I shall answer: I have been sent here to get her before you, but that you already know and I am here to recollect my task since I already marked her and she didn’t come to me on her own will. ” He says and I am left confused, with a whole new bunch of questions.
“Shut up, Lezar” Brad says clear anger on his voice. “You are the one who has failed I am here, and what happened in the past should never happen again. The past would never overtake the future, for you the fallen ones, the past is your present and your future and that will stay like that no matter what you all try to do.” Brad takes another gulp of water and spits it on Lezar, the water burning where it touches blisters forming on him and then he disappears like the serpent did into a cloud of mist.
The room is finally free of the paranormal creatures except for Brad, but I don’t mind his company since he just saved my life.
Brad comes toward me and grabs my wrist and he kisses where Lezar marked me. The moment becomes so intense and beautiful and I feel a pull in my veins a piercing pain coming from my wrist and a black mist leaves my hand and floats in the air. Brad takes the last drops of water left in the cup and throws them at the black mist and that as Mr. Ralph disappears.
Will be continued…
