Chapter 3
"Oh Bradley? He is kind of my son." Shawn replied. My jaw dropped. His son! My brother? "What do you mean kind of" I pressured. Shawn's eyes scanned the room before replying. "He is my girlfriend's son. I like to treat him like my own. If you noticed he still only calls me Shawn." He clarified. I instantly tensed. Girlfriend? My breathing quickened. Coming to my rescue Bradley came running in with a basket ball in hand. "Shawn? You coming back to training?" he hollered. "Sorry Sophie, i have to go. Will catch up later!" Shawn rushed, exiting the house.
A guard led me to my room. Walking up the Wooden stairs careful not to trip. My room the last on the left, i entered the room to find all my bags stacked beside the bed. The room was massive. A king sized bed in the middle, bedside tables either side. I lay down on the bed and breathe. The first moment i have had alone since that day. The emotions start coming back. The panic starts.
I am brought out of my thoughts by my phone ringing. I walk over to the desk in the corner and answer the call. "Hello?" i question. "Hey gorgeous where did you go to, you weren't at school today" Ava whined on the phone. Crap i forgot to tell her. Ava is one of my best friends back in London. She was always there for me no matter what. "Hey you still there" Ava interrupted. "Yeah, yeah i'm here. Well i am kind of in florida actually" i trailed off, not wanting to hear her being upset.
"But only for a couple of days right!? You will be back in no time!" Ava persisted. Trying to keep optimistic. "Well not really, i moved here" I mumbled. All i heard was screaming on the other end. Once she had lost all her breath she began to speak. " How the hell could you abandon me and not tell me" She hissed through the phone. Before i could reply a knock came at the door. "Hang on Ava, someones at the door" i announced before answering the door.
"Hey i heard you talking to yourself! Everything okay?" He asked in a exhausted voice. "Is that a guy!? Is he hot!" Ava shouted through the speaker of my phone. I cursed under my breath as I raced to the phone. "Ava I can't talk right now, bye" I rushed. I left my phone on the bed and walked over to the doorway were Bradley stood. "As you can see, i was just on the phone!" I proclaimed. "Yeah" He chuckled, nervously rubbing the back of his head. "Mum and Shawn wanted me to let you know dinner is in 10 minutes" Bradley Exclaimed. "Okay i will come down then" i declared. Bradley turned around and left my room. Going back to my phone i found the call still ongoing. As i put my ear to the phone the shouting continued. "You never answered my question! Is he hot!?" She protested. "Very" I concluded.
Dinner was awkward to say the least. Shawn's girlfriend, who i now know as April was Very interested in me. And i don't think it was a good thing. Once she asked about my mother Shawn quickly changed the topic. I sent him a thankful look, he nodded in reply. He is the only one that knows the truth. The police had to talk to him about my stay there and the reasons. Because of this he was very careful of what was said at dinner. Bradley kept on looking at me, studying me. I pretended not to notice. After dinner i raced to my room, in hopes of less humiliation.
Getting ready for bed I brushed my teeth and did my hair. Switching off the light, I hopped into bed and drifted off to sleep. Memories flashing back to the interrogation room, the hospital, the day everything fell apart. My breathing became rapid and I started screaming at the officers. "SHE DID IT TO PROTECT ME!". No one noticed me, it was like I was invisible. Suddenly someone was shaking me. The police disappeared and my house was no longer there. I jolted awake, screaming and shaking. My throat dry and sore. First thing that my eyes focus on are are pair of emerald green eyes staring back at me in worry.
"Sophie! Can you hear me! Are you okay?!" he pleaded. I tried to speak but no words came. All i could do was nod. "No, no you're not. Your shaking and you... you were screaming Sophie" He stutters, terrified by what i had done. Once i took a drink from my water i was able to speak again. "Don't worry, it's over now" I encouraged. Truth be told i knew this wasn't the end. Bradley Hesitated before talking again. "Has this happened before?" he questioned. I looked away before nodding my head. I left out the part where this one was worse than the rest.
Although this news didn't seem to calm him at all, he stood up off my bed and began to leave. "Bradley?" i muttered. He instantly turned around to face me. For the first time i noticed what he looked like, besides the emerald eyes. The nights were warm, because of this he wore navy boxers with a black top. The top sculpting his body, giving me a view of his abs. His blonde hair no longer held up by gel, causing strands to go in all different directions. "C-can you stay with me?" I stuttered. He said nothing, instead he came and laid next to me rubbing my shoulder while whispering into my ear "Goodnight Sophie"
