Chapter 4
I woke up with the sun shining through the window. As i turned over i noticed someone next to me. With toned muscles and blonde hair. Coming to the realisation that it was Bradley i instantly relaxed. I decided not to wake him and headed to the shower. Playing music through my phone i couldn't help but sing along to Halsey. Once my hair was washed i got out of the shower and changed. Since it was still cool here i wore some black jeans and a red top, with a denim jacket to keep me from freezing. Since i wasn't leaving the house any time soon i got my ugg boots back on.
Making my way to the kitchen i made my way down the staircase. I miss judged the step, causing my foot to slip. As i prepared for the fall someone's hands grabbed my waist. As i looked up i saw those emerald eyes staring back at me. "Um.. Thanks" I stuttered, still in shock after the humiliating error. "No worries" Bradley smirked. As he walked away he gave me a wink. Leaving me standing on the staircase, unable to move. I eventually kept on moving, that memory unable to be forgotten throughout breakfast.
A week has since passed since that awkward encounter at breakfast. The alarm clock rang at 7am as the horror of the school semester started. I slowly rolled over and began to head for the shower. The hot water hitting my skin as the groggy feeling melted away. Once i was fully awake i turned off the shower and got dressed for school. The nervousness set in, how do i want to appear to my peers? Will i be the school nerd or join the popular crowd. Through this dilemma the memory came back of the same time last year. Ava was with me and i couldn't decide what to wear. "Wear what you want, not what will satisfy others" Ava proclaimed.
With that in mind i got out my white dress and black sweater. Comfortable yet still acceptable at school. My blonde hair straightened and fell on my shoulders. My necklace hung around my neck, the symbol of a spaceship. Highlighting my true nerd self. I grabbed my backpack and phone and raced out of my bedroom to the kitchen, I made myself some toast and juice and sat at the counter. Daydreaming about what my first day would be like in florida.
"Hey, wanna ride to school?" Bradley interrupted, forcing me out of my thoughts. "Umm... Sure, i guess" I mumbled. Pushing my glasses up, i got up and headed to his car. I sat in the passenger side as he started the car. "I have to pick up a couple of friends, is that okay?" He asked, rubbing the back of his head. "Sure" i assured. A short time later he pulled to the side of the road as two guys came towards the car. "Hey Brad! Who's the nerd!" The first one spoke, arrogance clear in his voice. "This is Sophie, Be nice or coach will kill you" Bradley warned.
The other guy just sat there not saying a word. Why would coach be annoyed at him for hurting me? Just as the silence settled in my phone started to ring. Flashing on the screen Ava's face in all it's glory. I mentally groaned and answered the phone. "Heyyy Ava" I sighed. "You are so lucky i am still talking to you after you moved away!" She screamed on the other end. "Hey! It's not like i wanted to move!" I retaliate. "Anyways we are getting sidetracked, Have you heard from your mum?" she hesitated. "No, Ava what is going on!?" i persisted. "Just ask your dad" She suggested. And with that she hung up. I immediately hung up the phone and called Shawn. Bradley giving me a worried look but i couldn't explain all this to him. I can't let him in.
"Hello" Shawn answered. "Why didn't you tell me about mum?" I shrieked. Forgetting the people in the backseat. Shawn stayed quiet on the other end. "SHAWN!" i screamed. "Fine! She is going to court today" He gave in. "When?" i pestered. "5pm" He informed. "Call me as soon as you find out how it went, okay!?" i protested. "Sure" Shawn sighed. "Bye" i whispered. Tired of the yelling. "Bye Sophie" he responded as i hung up. As soon as i hung up i felt three pairs of eyes staring at me. "Soph? Everything aright, what did he do?" Bradley tensed. "Just something about home." I retorted. Not wanting for him to dig deeper. Before he could respond we arrived at school. As the car came to a halt i opened the door and left quickly as i could.
Keeping my head down as I entered the busy hallways I tightened my grip on my textbooks that I had received prior. A sudden change in pace caught me by surprise. Bumping into something or rather someone. "Watch where you're going nerd!" A deep and mysterious voice spoke as I tried to find my black-rimmed glasses to find out what i had done. After an agonising attempt I finally gained my sight. "s-sorry " I muttered to the guy. His brunette hair held up with gel. Brown eyes so deep and endless. He was at least a foot taller. I picked myself up and made my way to the end of the hallway.
Arriving at the office I quietly asked for my schedule and made my way to my first class of the day, English. Class English 216 Harriet. Following my timetable I attempted to find my place. Daydreaming about the humiliation that i had caused in the hallway, without releasing my grip on my textbooks loosened and papers came flying as they fell to the floor. "Crap" i muttered. I crouched down and started picking up my papers. "Here let me help" A male voice interrupted. I looked up to notice a strangely familiar face. "Liam?" I squeaked. "Sophie?" He responded. I jumped up and hugged him. Since the plane flight we constantly talked as she calmed me down for this very day. We gathered my papers and collected my books. "What do you have first?" Liam asked. "English 216 Harriet" I responded. "Same!" He exclaimed. "Then lead the way Liam!"
