"Welcome! Welcome! Hello everyone to the ceremony of the class of 2074! Everyone has completed their final testing and the scores have been tallied!" President McKinney said into the microphone, "Now to the ceremonial video that we all must watch at the completion of our schooling."
The giant projector screen slid down from the slit in the ceiling and everybody drew their attention to it. I watched as the video of the history of New America and how it came to be played. I watched as the footage from all the wars that destroyed our beloved country and almost made the human race extinct. I was always fascinated by the building of New America and how our founding fathers managed to create our wonderful city. After about 10 minutes the video switched over to one we had all seen before a thousand times, it was the one explaining the reason why we live the way we do and how it is the safest for us all and the dangers of outside the city walls. When the movie was finished the screen rose back to the ceiling and everyone focused back on the president.
"Now on to the rating part of the ceremony!" President McKinney said excitedly with a clap of his hands, "As your name is called please follow your counselor to their room to review and obtain your new rating as adults. As you are given your new rating your name will appear on the screen in your new rating area. Now good luck to you all!"
I was gently shaking in my seat as I waited for my name to be called. I wished the girl that had been sitting beside me good luck as they called her name. I was looking out the window trying to calm myself down some before I was called when someone came up behind me and rubbed my shoulders.
"Hey Mika." I said softly before turning around to look at him.
"Hey Illy how you holding up?" He asked as he leaned in and gave me a quick hug.
"I'm scared as all heck but I'm OK." I tell him as I rub my arms, "what about you?"
"Oh me, I'm fine and actually excited to see what I end up with." Mika said smiling out the window.
"Illyanna Carson!" My counselor called out.
I quickly stood up and started walking in her direction. I waved to Mika as we headed around the corner to her office. We headed down to the last door on the left.
"Okay Illyanna you can have a seat and we'll get started in just one moment." My counselor, Abbygail, said, "OK let's take a look here, top or grade in class in every subject, extremely helpful around the community, came from a green pairing."
I toned out as she started going over all of the details of my life like I wasn't sitting just in front of her. I zoned back in as she grabbed my hand.
"Illyanna are you alright?" She asked me with a look of concern on her face.
"What?" I asked stupidly, "oh yes I'm fine I'm sorry I just zoned out for s minute really anxious about all this as you know."
"Of course you at my dear everyone is anxious on rating day." She explained to me as she patted my hand, "Now as I was saying I believe we ate going to bump you up to the orange rating and your new career will be as a healer. We have also determined that you are a perfect candidate for implantation."
"What?" I asked her confused, "I thought only older people got put up for implantation?"
"Well yes it usually is but with your scores we determined that you won't need to go through the second set of testing that most adults have to go through for implantation and of course you have wonderful genes to pass on." Abbygail explained to me.
"Oh" was all that I could say as I started getting lost in my thoughts again.
"It's OK dear you have time to adjust we still have to find a match for you." She said as she patted my hand, "OK so if you can just scan your ??? we can finish things up here."
I reached my hand out so that my ??? can scan and take in my new information. After my ??? beeped I thanked Abbygail and headed back to the main auditorium. As I walked towards Mika I looked up at the screen and seen my name now under the lounge rating area. As I walked by I glanced up and caught sight of Mika's name in the indigo section. I froze.
When I found my feeling again I headed in the direction of Mika but when I looked up I couldn't see him anywhere. I searched everywhere for him but after about 2 hours of looking I decided to head home and try to find him tomorrow.
I yawned as the train lulled into the station. I slowly climbed off stretching and mad the five minute walk to my house. Once home I quickly threw on my pjs and climbed into my bed. I was asleep before my head hit the pillow.
