"Mummy, I have a question." Lola's big blue eyes looked up at me. They sparkled in the early July sunlight. Her eyes looked just like her fathers. "What is it, my precious?" I smiled at her while putting a plate back into the cupboard. "It's random, but how did you and dad meet each other?" She looked at the floor and twirled her hair around her finger. "I'd be happy to tell you. Let's sit outside while the weather is warm. Do you want an ice cream?" I asked. Her eyes widened at the thought of a toffee ice cream cone. I handed her the cold desert and (as children do) stuffed her face with ice cream. We sat down on the chairs in the garden. I sipped some water as Lola ate all her ice cream in one. "You need to calm down on the ice cream, honey. You'll be sick one of these days!" I laughed as she wiped the excess ice cream of her face. She stuck her tongue out at me and I did so too. Suddenly, the smell of grilled burgers and sausages filled the air. We looked down at the bottom of the garden and we saw Matt behind the grill. "Stay here, sweetheart. I'm going to check on your dad." I got up and quickly ran over to Matt, who was very focused on trying not to burn the food. I tapped his back and he jumped because I gave him a fright. He turned around and wrapped his arms around my neck and kissed me. "What's up babe?" He kissed my forehead. "Lola wants to know how we first met..."
Matt smiled and took my hand. "Aww, let's tell her."
Matt and I walked back to the table, where Lola was sitting playing with a doll.
"Daddy!!" Lola ran to Matt and sat on his lap. He kissed the top of her head "I hear that you want to know how me and mummy met?"
She nodded. He smiled and looked at me. He put an arm around me and cuddled me close. "Well, it all happened like this..."
