***Evangeline’s POV
The next morning… I opened my eyes, warm sun filled rays burst through the blinds and into the room. The light seemed to be so bright, but that was probably because I hadn’t seen sunlight in over a month. My eyes were having a hard time focusing on anything. But as I blinked and rubbed my eyes, it became easier. Everything felt like a dream, nothing about sitting in such an elaborately decorated bedroom felt real. All of it felt like a dream like it was going to suddenly turn into a nightmare any second. There was a knock at the door. ‘This is it’ I thought, ‘This is where the lovely dream would turn into a nightmare.’ But it didn’t happen, the door didn’t open. I sat up in bed and stretched out my arms, the warm plush bedding beneath me felt wonderful.
“Come in.”
I was surprised to see who walked in. It was Luke, his bright eyes, and the glamorous smile plastered upon his face let me know that this wasn’t a dream. That last night I really did happen, I really did escape, and he really is dead. I say he and him a lot because just the taste of his real name rolling off my tongue is enough for me to vomit. But we’ll get to that later too.
“Glad to see that you’re awake finally. How do you feel?”
“Ok, I feel pretty ok actually.”
“Well that’s good; you look like you feel better. Are you hungry?"
“Yeah almost on the verge of starving.” I laughed.
“Ok, well uhh, there are clean clothes in the closet, and there’s a shower through that door right there, if you’d like to get washed up.”
“Geeze, sorry if I smell bad.”
“That’s now what I – I didn’t – I just meant-“
I laughed, “I was only kidding, it’s ok. And thanks.”
He smiled, “oh, ok.” He laughed nervously before he turned around and walked out the door.
As I climbed into the shower I let the hot water run over my shoulders. I put my head in my hands and just sobbed. It was when it had finally hit me, I had nothing left, he killed my parents and he killed my little brother. He held me captive for over two years, what did I have left to return to? I had to hold it together though. This was the hardest thing I had to prevail through in my life, but I did it. I survived, and now I had to pick up the pieces and move on. After I finished with the shower I stood in front of the closet. It was time to decide on what I wanted to wear, I didn’t really care, and just as long as the clothes were clean it didn’t really matter. But in the end I decided on a pair of jeans and a bright green shirt. He always had me wearing some type of floral print dress. Things were so complicated then, but I didn’t want things to be complicated ever again.
There was another knock at the door, this time I greeted the person at the door. It was Brooke. She
I saw Brooke standing in the door way.
“There you are, how are you feeling?” she smiled.
“Fine I guess. Where am I exactly?”
“My house, they released you from the hospital and I didn’t want to leave you at some shelter or something so I brought you back to my house.”
Hospital? I had gone to the hospital? I rubbed my face a little more, thinking that it would bring back some memories, but they never surfaced. “It wasn’t a dream right? He’s dead?” I asked unsure about the other events that had happened.
She nodded her head. “Yes that’s right, he’s dead.”
Then Luke walked into the room and he was carrying a tray. “Here you go breakfast in bed.” He smiled down at me and motioned towards the bed. I sat down beneath the covers and he set the tray down over my lap then sat next to me near the edge of the bed.
