Fast forward a few weeks later and everything continued to be sketchy. Luke kept ignoring me or blowing me off when I would try to get ahold of him. If it wasn't bad enough my best friend Addy (at the time) started getting distant with me as well. So I started thinking maybe I was the problem.
I was in a deep sleep and faintly heard my phone going off. I grabbed it off my night stand and slid my finger across the screen. "Hello?" I said in a half asleep voice. "Get your booty up. I'm tired of you moping around. Let's have a girls day. The girls and I want to take your mind off things." I looked at my phone, realizing who it was. "Oh my god Jess. WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME AT 7AM?" I groaned. "Listen. I'll let you go back to sleep as long as you agree." she shot back. I hesitated. "Kallie, Come on. Since you and Luke have been together we don't hardly ever see you, please" she added. "Fine." I sighed as I hung up the phone.
Later on in the day when I finally woke up for good I text Jess and asked her what we were doing and what time. She informed me that we were going to the moves at 8pm. The rest of the day I did my laundry, the dishes before I got in the shower. I put my makeup on and got dressed, waiting for 7pm to roll around so I could meet up with them before the movie.
I picked up my friend Melissa on the way to the theater. As we pulled in the parking lot, I could tell there wasn't many places to park. "Wow. Hopefully there's room for us in there." Melissa said, not sounding very confident. I raised mg eyebrows, "No kidding" I huffed. When we finally found a place to park, which was way in the back we hurried to the register to get some tickets. "There you guys are! The only tickets available is Peter the Penguin and we bought you both one already." Jess said approaching us with the rest of the girls. I rolled my eyes. "Wonderful" I mumbled as we walked into the #3 door
There was a lot of people in the movie for it to be about a penguin. It was already dark in there we could barley see going up the stairs. We all sat at the very top, which is where we always sat. The commercials started playing when in the shadows I saw a very familiar face towards the front. I nudged Jess "Look down 7 rows ahead of us, its Addy" Jess squinted her eyes trying to focus 7 rows ahead. "And she has a boyfriend?" she said but sounded more like a question. I shrugged. "She's never mentioned it tome before."
"Come on." Jess called after me as she was pulling my arm to go down the stairs with her. We went around the bin and out in the hall. "I saw Addy leave. Let's go see whats up with her." we walked into the bathroom and waited outside of the stall that I seen her blue nikes in. The door creeked open. "Oh. Hi guys." Addy said startled. "What? Why don't you ever text me back? Is it because your new boyfriend? You know I would have understood." I shot off to her, leaving her with a questioning glance. "Kallie its-" I cut her off. "Its fine. I promise" I laughed. "But you guys have fun. I'm gonna get back to the movie." I called over my shoulder as I let the door close behind me.
Jess and I walked back into the theater, and I wanted to glance and see who Addy had been dating, wondering whether I knew him or not. I looked over by where she was sitting and my heart dropped. It was Luke, my Luke.
That's the night I lost not only my boyfriend, but my best friend. We exchanged a couple harsh comments to each other outside in the parking lot before I punched her in the cheek. "Baby Stop!" I kept hearing Lukas say. "I'm not your baby. And I never will be again" I yelled as I got into my car and peeled the tires as I drove off.
Everyone tried comforting me the rest of the weekend, I didn't want their pitty. I dreaded school Monday. I even switched out of every class I had with him. I was so tired of everything. The school year was coming to an end and summer break was approaching and I couldn't wait.
One day I walked into a class that I had with a bunch of Lukas's friends. They were all in a circle as I walked past them and sat down. "You do know that you are acting like such a baby don't you?" one of them said as soon as I sat down. I ignored them. "It's not like he slept with her." another one teased. I had enough, I couldn't keep quiet anymore.
"IM BEING A BABY? ME? HE CHEATED ON ME! HE'S NOT THE ONE CRYING HIMSELF TO SLEEP EVERY DAMN NIGHT. I NEVER DID ANYTHING TO HIM BUT LOVE HIM UNCONDITIONALLY." I yelled for the entire class to hear, even the teacher. I didn't give anyone enough time to react. I got my things off my desk and headed into the hall way.
Slamming my books to the ground, I put my back to the wall and slid down, as I reached the bottom tears started streaming. I sat out there the whole class period, the final bell rang and everyone started hurrying out of classrooms everywhere. A couple people that left the class I was in just looked at me, not many, but some. But none of Luke's friends looked at me, they knew they hurt me.
As kids passed through the hall, a girl with long brown hair sat down beside me. "What's wrong?" she asked. "It's not like anyone would care anyways, but its my ex boyfriend, he's such an asshole" I said, wiping tears from my face. She just sat there without saying anything for awhile. "You know, you should probably get up" I said, breaking the silence. "Yeah, I probably should, but if I did no one would be here with you." she whispered. I smiled at her. I've seen her around school a couple times. I had never caught her name, it was Hailey. This was my future best friend and I had no clue.
We sat on the ground until the janitor started sweeping the floors. We went to our lockers got our things and left. She gave me her number, so I could call her if I ever needed her. Which was pretty likely, I didn’t have anyone. That's how it seemed anyways.
The rest of the school year went by fast. Hailey and I hung out almost everyday. Her mom loved me and mine loved her. Over the summer she stayed with me because her mom went to Florida and she didn't want to go, which helped me take my mind off Luke. Sure I thought about Luke, how couldn’t I? But I didn't stress myself over it. I still loved him sure, but there was nothing I could do about it.
One Saturday Hailey and I went down to the beach. Just to hang out, work on our tans. As we walked to find somewhere to tan I spotted him and my heart dropped yet again. He was with some girl, this girl was gorgeous. Long blonde hair, Bright blue eyes you could spot a mile away. Wow, I thought to myself, no wonder why he's already over me. He's not even with Addy.
I couldn’t even think straight, he didn't see me and Hailey for the longest time. Then he spotted us, and he started walking towards us. "Hey Kallie" he called after me. I stopped in my tracks, I haven’t heard him say my name in so long. I turned around "Yeah, Hi Luke" the girl he was with said turned around "Oh my god, this is Kallie?" she turned to Luke. "Yes, this is Kallie, as in I'm Kallie, who are you?" I had an attitude. "Actually im Luke's cousin, He's told me SO much about you" she smiled. My jaw dropped and I looked at Hailey. She couldn’t help but smile.
That was the first time I talked to Luke, in almost a year. In a odd way I missed his voice. "Well we gotta go" I called toward them as I pulled Haileys arm & we walked off. "Nice meeting you" the blonde girl called after me. "Yeah, same to you" I called over my shoulder
The rest of the summer I never seen him. Nor did O talk to him. Hailey and I just hung out like no one else mattered. While the summer came to an end her mom got back from Florida. Then she spent time with her mom before school started. So we hung out less than I was use to. My head was hurting so bad. Just by thinking that school was coming up soon. I knew I was going to see Luke some time or another, but I really hoped I wouldn’t at all.
One summery night I got a phone call. It was from a private number, I was half asleep or I wouldn’t of answered it. "Hello" I said in a half sleep voice. "Where are you" I heard a familiar voice. My eyes popped wide open at that point. "My house?" I said sounding as I wasn’t sure how to reply. The person on the other end hung up without another word. I put my phone back on the charger, as I sat there, wondering who that was. I finally fell into a deep sleep as I was hoping they would call back because I was curious as to who it was.
To this day I still have no idea who it was. Was it Luke? Was it a wrong number?
