He could feel the soft, silky sheets that he was wrapped in as he lay on the stiff bed. The smell of cleaning agents was strong, yet not offensive and the sound within the room was non-existent. The room was cool, and still.
The man slowly opened his eyes and stared up at the white paneled ceiling. The light in the room was very dim, bright enough to see the dimensions of the room, but the light within was pleasant to his eyes. The man continued to stare at the ceiling. His mind was not ready for anything complex and the blank ceiling kept him calm.
He laid there staring on for minutes, and those minutes added up to hours. The curiosity that poked and prodded at his mind kept him awake, but his body was feeble and the feeling of his arms and legs were absent. He could do nothing but stare at the moment.
Muffled footsteps came from outside the room. They increased in volume and the man could no longer ignore the sound. He slowly turned his head to his left, the source of the footsteps.
The lights brightened and a panel in the wall became transparent, revealing a slim man dressed in a fitted suit and red tie. He removed the cigarette from his mouth and spoke.
"Oh good. You're awake."
