"Hello?" said Christina.
"Hey, Christi...it's Sara. Oh my gosh I haven't seen you in like forever. Okay...I know this is going to sound insanly crazy...but I need to ask you a favor..." I said hopefully.
"Oh...hi Sara. I know, I haven't seen you in years! What do you need? I'm sure it can't be that crazy..." She said. She had no idea.
"Okay...well, you know about my dad's...issue?" I said.
"...Yes..." She said.
"Well, I can't handle it anymore. And I found out that my mom Andrea...lives in New York City." I said.
"Uh-huh..." She said.
"Okay. Well...my dad's by my grandmothers. So I decided that I would take a trip to New York. You know. To try and find my mom. And...I'm sort of at the New York City airport. Right now." I said.
"What?!" She said.
" I know. It's crazy. And I forgot to call you before I left to ask you this, and I'm sorry it's last minute...but I sort of don't have any where to live for the next couple weeks...and I was wondering If I could stay with..."
"Yes! Sure. Ofcourse, Sara! I don't live far from the airport...I can come pick you up! Right now..." She said.
"Okay...wait. Are your parents okay with me staying with you?" I asked.
"Oh. Right! Brb." She said. In the backround, I could hear faint voices over the phone. I couldn't tell if they were good or bad because they were so silent. I could hear the running foot steps of her little brother, Tom, and the weak cries of her new baby sister Katherine. After about 5 minutes, Christi came back.
"Sara? Hey, after a long discussion, they said that it would probably be fine...on one condition." She said.
"Absolutley. Anything!" I said gratefully.
"Well, my mom is getting a new job that she works on Mondays and Thursday. She was wondering if you could give her babysitting for Katherine those days since you obviously won't be in school..." She said.
"Sure! No charge....no charge at all. I'll give her free babysitting. Tell her thank you." I said.
"Great! I'm on my way. Be there in 20 minutes!" She said. I couldn't believe this. I got to stay with Christina for a month and all I have to do is babysit for free 3 days a week! I ploped down on the nearest bench inside and watched out the window for Christi. I was so excited I was actually here. Why not make a vacation out of this? Go sight seeing! Meet people...all that. I decided to write an entry in my journal-
Dear Journal-
I'm finally here in New York City! I will be staying at Christina's house for as long as I can, on one condition that I offer free babysitting for her baby sister. I hope for the best-to find my mother and talk to her face to face. I don't know what she will be like-maybe she didn't want me or is as just a an alcoholic as my dad is. But I'm ready to face anything.
I'm also hoping to re-tie my friendship with Christina...and even hang out more like we used to. We were such good friends...until she had to move. I haven't seen her in five years...outside of texts and video chats. Well...I'm hear now and I'll make the best of the time I have with her.
I am all ready to face New York. I have a fat wallet filled with my life savings-just in case. I have all of the clothes I need to face the cold weather. It is January, even though we don't really have winter down in Florida. I love the fact that I get to see new things that I've never seen before. Like snow for example. The only time I've EVER seen snow was when I stayed with my aunt up in Alaska where she used to live. But that was when I was little...maybe around five years old. Anyway, I see Christina pulling up in the parking lot. I'll write later!
Wish me luck,
Sara
As soon as I saw Chris, I put on my coat, I swung my carry on over my shoulder, and one by one- took my suitcases out to her brand new Toyota. After I was finished loading up my luggage, I went to sit shotgun.
"OMG, hi!" I said to her when I sat down.
"Hey! How long has it been since I've seen you?" She asked and gave me a hug.
"I don't know...maybe five years?" I said.
"It's been WAY too long." She said.
"Totally." I said. The whole ride was silent accept for the soft beats of the music coming from the stereo. I have to admit-it was pretty awkward sitting next to someone you haven't seen for the past few years. I just sat back and closed my eyes.
