"diana!" there is a knock on my door and i wake up from my sleep. i strain to open my eyes and i am immediately blinded by the sunlight streaming into the room and directly into my face.

"what?" i groan as i bury my face in my pillow. the door opens and who i assume is lei walks in. she is one of our maids, and i am very close to her. i raise my head up and see her picking my dirty clothes up off the floor.

"time to wake up," she chirps. "breakfast is ready."

i let out a huge yawn as she says this, then the sound of food almost instantly snaps me out of my groggy state. "what's for breakfast?" i ask.

"you'll see," she says distractedly, going through my closet. she is probably picking my clothes out for me, which she does every single day, even though i tell her that i am capable of picking out my own clothes. lei is very stubborn, though, but i have to admit, the clothes she picks out for me are always great.

i get up from my bed and trudge out of my bedroom. i walk down the huge marble staircase, and i am surprised to see my parents in the dining room. they are almost never home, because they're always busy with their work, and today, they still are. they're both talking to customers over their walkman's, and this makes me annoyed as i sit down on the table and eye the plate of bacon and eggs.

i start eating my food. my parents own an oil foundation and fancy restaurants and several other huge businesses. that is why we're very rich. it sucks, though, because they never have the time for me anymore. never. ever since they've become mindless creatures, i am always ignoring them. they are just another pair of zombies in the jungle of my sad, sad life. i don't realize that i've zoned out, though, until somebody calls my name.

"what?" i ask, looking up to see my parents smiling widely at me, which makes me suspicious. what do they have in mind now?

"we have great news!" my dad says, setting his phone down on the table.

"really great, great news!" my mom chirps eagerly. somehow she reminds me of effie trinket from the hunger games, the way she's so bubbly this early in the morning.

"what news?" i ask, sounding kind of bored. they can't blame me. all they ever talk about to me is their work, which tires and bores me a lot.

"we just got a huge promotion for our foundation!" my dad yells, and he and my mom spends the next few minutes cheering and talking about "how this will make them richer," and i'm just there watching them tiredly.

"and why are you telling me this?" i ask once they're done acting like a bunch of fangirls. my mom beams at me and it makes me sick.

"nothing, dear," she says. "we just wanted to tell you the great news!" then she turns her walkman back on and starts chattering to somebody on the other end of the line, completely ignoring me.

i finish my breakfast, which is almost impossible because i have no appetite anymore. when i'm done, i hurriedly go back up to my bedroom. the room's clean of clothes scattered everywhere, the bed is fixed, and there are the clothes lei picked out for me: a fuzzy white sweater, black skinny jeans, and my white converse.

i smile to myself as i grab my towel and go to the bathroom connected to me room. i take a fifteen-minute shower, letting the warm water cascade over me, relaxing my body and my thoughts. when i finish i wrap the towel around me and walk back into my room, changing into the clothes. i add a minimal amount of makeup -- i don't use much, because makeup is sticky and i don't like the feeling of wearing it -- to my face, just a light pink blush to my cheeks and a bit of eyeliner.
