So a few days ago my mom, my sister and I went to the new local HEB for some groceries. The ramen section had been expanded, so I was pretty excited about that. But there were some new flavors; tortilla chicken flavor, lime shrimp flavor and- chili flavor. I, being the curious one in my family, went and got the lime shrimp and chili flavored ones. Of course, I thought that the chili flavored one would just be some slightly spicy, odd-tasting noodles. I was wrong.
Today, a few minutes ago, I was making the chili ramen for myself, excited to know what it tasted like. I took the noodles out of the pot and put them into my bowl, then grabbed the flavor packet. I ripped it open and poured it onto my noodles, finding that it was actually chili powder. I swear it was. It was reddish orange and smelled spicy, and that started to scare me. I mean, this was pretty much chili powder poured and mixed into poor, helpless ramen noodles. I took it over to the table anyway, despite all of the warnings already given to me. Once I make ramen, I must finish it. I put an ice cube in the mixture and stirred it around in hopes of cooling it down enough, but that wouldn't take away the spice. As soon as I started to eat the ramen, my mouth was on fire. I don't usually eat spicy things, so that doesn't help anything. I have very low spiciness tolerance, ok? Every bite was painful, but I knew it had to be done. My mouth seared with pain both because of the heat, and the chili powder. When I was done I didn't even bother drinking off the bottom; I couldn't risk it. Even when I was writing the first paragraph my mouth and lips still felt the flames of the chili powder. I was caught completely off guard. My mouth feels fine now though, so I'm good. If you want to get some chili ramen too, go ahead, it may be less painful for the better trained...Anyways, it was nice sharing an example of what my curiosity can do to me.
