If you're reading this letter now, that means that I'm dead. I don't know when it is that you're reading this, but if it's really you, I'm glad. Because there are things that I need to tell you, that I never really got the chance to do so. I know you may hate me, and that's fine, but please keep reading so that you can find out what I need to tell you. Because I am the only person aside from Isobel and a few others that knew this information.

Your father is somebody who was with Isobel around about sixteen years ago. The two of them loved each other very much and when Damon came around and turned her into a vampire, he couldn't bring himself to look after you, no matter how much he loved you.

He ended up finding out a lot about Isobel, who he believed was dead at the time. He found out that she had a baby with me, and that the baby eventually got left with the Gilbert family in Mystic Falls. Of course, at the time, he had no idea who that family were.

He eventually got the idea of putting you up for adoption. He just didn't think that he could raise a child on his own and have to tell him at some point that his mother was killed by a vampire. That was just too much for him. So, he took you to where Isobel had left Elena.

He'd gone up to the front door, placed you on the porch and knocked on the door. After doing so he hid away. And that is how Miranda and Grayson Gilbert became your adoptive parents.

Of course, now, this man came back into your life. He fell in love with Jenna, and he decided that he wanted to make things right for you. He told me that he was going to tell you. But didn't know how to.

So, Taylor. The man who has been your father all along is Alaric Saltzman.
