"Taylor, you know I really shouldn't be letting you come? You could get killed, we're dealing with werewolves."
When I'd called Stefan and told him about the conversation that I'd just had, he was over to my house with Tyler way faster than I would've imagined. I literally had to practically latch onto him like a small koala to convince him to let me go with him to get Caroline back.
I know it's a lot to ask of him, because if I do die, which hopefully I won't, then Elena would probably kill him.
"Stefan, do you really think that they'd kill a child?"
"Yeah, I really do. Especially these ones."
Well, he just had to be a Debbie Downer in this situation too, didn't he?
"Anyway, are you okay? You seemed pretty choked up on the phone before." Stefan asks, a tone of worry to his voice. Of course, this is one of Stefan's more known traits among people. He always worries about those close to him, and always wants to make sure they're okay. Typical hero, if you ask me.
"Well, apart from the fact that I found out this morning that John is Elena's real father and that Caroline's life is in danger, and I'm in constant fear that my crazy ass doppelgänger is gonna come after me and murder me to take over my life. Yeah, I'm perfectly fine."
"You know, Taylor, you couldn't be safer from Isaac if he were to come for you here. You have both me and Damon, and Caroline, and Bonnie who can all protect you. Not to mention, Alaric's a skilled vampire hunter."
See, this is what's so good about Stefan. No matter how stressed out, afraid, or negative you're feeling, he always manages to find a way to make you feel better. Whether that's because you need a big hug from someone, or just some really encouraging or reassuring words. He just knows what to say to someone if they're not feeling great.
I suppose that's what 160 years of living has taught him.
"This shouldn't turn ugly, should it? Getting Caroline back?" I ask, going back to our original conversation topic.
"Hopefully not. But if it does, I'm gonna need you to run as fast as you can away from the place. Even if we haven't gotten Caroline out yet."
We're almost there. I can see the falls in the distance, so the clearing will be just near there. It's really dark right now, so I can't see everything, but the falls are dimly lit by the moonlight, as is some of the pathway that leads up there. So I can vaguely see where I'm going.
The rest of the walk is quiet. Neither Stefan or I speak, and Tyler remains silent as he has been for the whole journey. I've spent this short time thinking. Thinking about Caroline. I'm super, super worried about her right now. But really, anyone would if their friend's life was in danger. Just the thought of Caroline having been shot makes me shiver. And the fact that I heard her being shot over the phone, and her screams of pain, genuinely makes me feel sick to my stomach.
Also, I've been trying my best to not think about Elena and John. I've grown up having Elena as my sister, and just this morning, the truth has been dropped on Jenna and I like a bomb, that Elena isn't actually my sister... But my cousin. It doesn't feel right referring to her as my cousin. But she's only my biological cousin. Deep down, in my heart of hearts, Elena is my sister.
By now, I think we've arrived. I can see a small caravan, with some lights around it. Which I can safely assume is where Caroline is being held by these werewolves.
"I know you're out there." A female voice calls out. The same female voice that was talking to me over the phone just before.
Stefan continues to walk forward, and I follow closely by, slightly afraid of the situation. Somehow, sticking as close as possible to Stefan makes me feel safer. It's probably just because he's a vampire, and is strong and protective.
