Chapter 8
Kathy's POV
To say I was mad was a huge understatement. I didn't even have to wake up early today because Dustin had the chores taken care of this morning. The boys seen me at my window and stopped screaming and honking the horn. They instead started flapping their arms like they were trying to fly. I shook my head, super annoyed. Dustin came into my room and looked just as grumpy as I felt. "Your stupid friends are outside and woke the whole house up. Can I shoot them now?" he asked running a hand through his hair. I let out a breath of air and shook my head. "I guess I'll go see what they want." I threw on some jean and a shirt and was about to head down the stairs when I passed my mirror. "Oh god." I quickly attempted to tame my hair the best I could and headed downstairs. When I got in the kitchen, mom turned away from the counter to look at me. "The next time these boys wake everybody up this early, I will not stop Dustin from shooting them." I nodded and sighed. I stepped out onto the front porch and gave the Reed boys the meanest look I could muster. "What in the hell is wrong with you guys?" I grumbled. "C'mon! We're gonna be late for the horse show!" Colton said eagerly. "Um, I'm not going anywhere with people who wake the whole house up at four in the morning." I said looking at Beau who was staring intently at the house. I turned around and saw Dustin standing on the porch. "May I help you?" Beau asked. "Yeah, get out of here. It's four in the morning and you woke everybody up with your nonsense." Dustin said casually walking towards us. I instantly knew they were going to argue and Dustin was already in a bad mood. "Look, you guys go to the horse show and stop by later and tell me how it went. Okay?" I said turning and grabbing Dustin's arm to pull him back inside the house. "But c'mon Kathy! It'll be fun!" Colton whined. I almost smiled, but remembered I had to keep up the pissed off act. I shook my head and pulled Dustin inside the house. "Why won't you just let us fight it out one day Kathy?" he asked turning towards me. "Because there isn't a point in fighting just because you don't like each other. There has to be a point to it at least and so far I haven't seen a point in all your guys' arguments." I thought I had actually won a argument with Dustin when he just stared blankly at me, but then he burst out laughing. "Why are you laughing?" I asked. "You obviously don't know your farmhand and his brother like you think you do. Beau is probably one of the worst guys I have ever met." he stated, walking towards the living room. "What's wrong with Beau? He seems like a nice guy." I said attempting to defend him. "See, that's the thing. He always seems like a nice guy to girls at first, and then he hurts them. He hurts everyone. He tells all the girls the things they want to hear, then they like him, he asks them out, and guess what he does? He gets something from them. He uses them for his advantage and then he drops them like they were nothing. And that is why, I don't want the Reed boys around my sister." Dustin was yelling this as he stomped around the kitchen, looking for who knows what. "How do you know that? They just moved here Dustin! You can't say that about someone you just met." I yelled back. "I haven't just met him." He softly whispered. I was taken aback by his change in tone. "How? He just moved here. Of course you just met him." Dustin shook his head back and forth, causing his hair to fall down in his eyes. "Me and that bastard used to be best friends."
Colton's POV
"Just shut up already!" Beau yelled. "You're the one who started all of this! You can't keep a girl for more than three weeks and I saw her first! I told you when I saw her I thought I liked her, but no. You just have to go and try to take her from me!" I yelled back. "Technically, she isn't being taken away from you because she isn't yours." He flaunted. He flashed me an evil grin across the seat as we drove back home. "Beau, I freaking hate you right now." I stated turning towards the window. "C'mon little bro! Is that any way to talk to your older brother who loves you so dearly?" He reached over and lightly punched my shoulder. "If you weren't driving I would punch you in the face." I grumbled. He laughed and turned the radio up. I shook my head in anger. Beau didn't deserve Kathy. He'd just hurt her like all the other girls he's talked too. Sometimes I'm actually ashamed to admit he is my brother. When we got to the house, I stormed out of the truck trying my best to get away from him. "What's the hurry lil bro?" he asked coming up to me. I shoved him off and walked through the door. Mom was standing in the hallway talking on the phone. She looked distraught. I stopped dead in my tracks in front of her and waited until she got off the phone. I didn't have to turn to know that Beau was right behind me. Our mother was probably one of the most important things in our lives. When she hung the phone up, she turned to look at us. "Boys, I'm afraid we are going to have to pack up and find a new house in the next day." My jaw dropped. "What? Why?" This house has been sold right out from under us, literally. I called the bank and the everything. There is nothing I can do." she had the sad smile on her face. I knew when she got in her room, the smile would break and she would cry. She only smiled to show us that things were going to be okay. Even if they weren't. "Start packing boys. I guess we'll go house looking tomorrow." She walked slowly down the hall to her room, where she softly shut the door. I turned to Beau and saw just how pissed he actually was. "They can't do that! They can't take a house away from anyone!" he said looking down at me. "Well they just did." I slowly stalked to my room and looked at all the stuff I had to pack up. This day could not get any worse.
