If you've ever played Ao Oni, this is my version of what happened on that night.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Wow, this place is nice than I thought it’d be,” my boyfriend, Derek, smirked as we walked into the abandoned mansion that sat on the outskirts of town. Rumor has it that it’s haunted with the Ao Oni, a blue demon. I hated paranormal shit like this and I just wanted to go home. I clung onto Derek’s arm and quaked in fear.

“A-alright, we came, we saw, and there’s nothing! Can we go home now?” I asked in one quick breath. Derek brushed my hair in place with his hand.

“There’s nothing to worry about, Naomi! I’m right here; I’ll protect you,” he smiled. My heart stopped when I saw that award winning smile and his dark messy hair hanging in his face beautifully. I couldn’t help myself.

“You guys are ridiculous,” my friend, Hannah, scoffed while flipping her blonde bangs out of her face and fixing her square framed glasses. “Scientifically speaking, there’s no such thing as ghosts, or demons, or shit like that,” she scowled.

“What if there is something here?” Derek’s older brother, Dahvie, grinned. “That’d be so badass!”

“You aren’t scared?” I asked. He shook his head triumphantly.

“No way! No piece of shit ghost is gonna scare me!” he grinned proudly. Dahvie was nothing like his brother. He played piano, guitar, and drums, while Derek played soccer, baseball, and football. Dahvie had shoulder length multicolored hair that he liked to straighten, while Derek left his perfectly messed up dark mop alone. Dahvie was a complete ass most of the time while Derek was sweet and caring.

“Yeah, sure,” Derek rolled his eyes. Soon the sound of a plate shattering met my ears and I squealed in fear. Derek and I stood there horror stricken while the other two stood there bored. Hannah groaned and threw her hands in the air dramatically.

“FINE! I’ll check it out!” she cried before making her way to the source. I let go of Derek’s arm and caught onto hers.

“Don’t do it, Hannah. I got a very bad feeling about this,” I said worriedly. She rolled her eyes and shrugged out of my grip.

“I’ll be fine,” she said.

“Just… be careful,” I whispered in fear. I was overwhelmed with the feeling that someone was with us, that something bad was going to happen.

“I will,” she said before rushing through a door. Worriedly, I stumbled back to Derek, almost tripping on my feet. He caught me and kissed my forehead.

“She’ll be fine,” he told me.

“I hope you’re right,” I sighed. We sat there waiting for  Hannah for a little while before Dahvie went wandering. “Dahvie!” I hissed. “Don’t leave us! We have to wait for Hannah!”

“Stop being such a worry wart! It’s an empty house! Don’t be so gullible, Naomi,” he rolled his eyes before bounding upstairs.

 “Let’s follow him,” Derek said.

“But what about Hannah?” I asked.

“She’ll be fine! She’s a big girl! My brother on the other hand is an idiot who could kill himself in a padded room,” he said back before letting go of me and rushing upstairs after Dahvie. I weighed my options quickly before rushing after Derek.

“Wait! Derek! Don’t leave me please!” I said as I caught up with him. We walked up the creaky steps and soon I stopped, but not on my own accord. My heart slowed to the pace of a snail and slowly I looked down.
