I arose to the bright rays of sun stripped across my face from my open window blinds. I was stretched out on my couch with a blanket over me. No bowls. No cereal. No milk. Nothing was on the coffee table. I sat up and noticed the TV was off and most disappointingly there was no Aiden. I removed the covers from over me and walked up the staircase. I walked into the guest bedroom and there was no evidence of anyone being in there. I walked to the second bedroom and then my bedroom and there was still no Aiden or evidence that he was there.
"Was it all a dream?" I thought to myself. "It couldn't have been a dream. It was too real. I looked at my attire and saw that I was still wearing my pink silk Chemise and robe that I had picked out. "Am I tripping? Was he really here last night?" I asked myself.
I walked into the kitchen and looked on the counter, no dishes, no crumbs, nothing. My box of Fruit Loops was in the place it's always been on top of the refrigerator. At that point, I had lost all hope. I was just about to curse myself for having such a vivid imagination until I looked at the sink. On the drying rack there were two bowls and two spoons, washed and air drying.
Just then, my doorbell rung. Maybe it was Aiden, maybe he didn't up and leave me. Hopefully he just ran to get breakfast. I had hundreds of thoughts running through my mind. I quickly looked through the peep hole and saw two men in black suits standing on the other side. I retied my robe so that it was covering my exposed cleavage and smoothed down my hair to make it as presentable as possible. I cleared my throat and flung open the door.
Both men looked at me. They both had the builds of club bouncers and they towered over me. One was black man sporting cornrows and no facial hair. He seemed to be in his mid-thirties and his partner was a white man with a full beard and piercing blue eyes and looked to be in his forties. Although the latter was older, he still looked as if he trashed guys younger than him on regular bases. "Gentlemen?" I croaked. I was terrified and it seemed my morning was going further down the toilet as each moment crept by. The older man spoke in a deep booming voice " Mia Barrish?". "Yes?" I replied hesitantly. "I'm going to ask that you come with us." He responded. "Come with you where? Who are you?" I demanded. The younger one spoke up "We can't answer that ma'am". "I'm going to need for you to get out of my building or else I'm calling the cops" I barked. The older one spoke again "That won't be necessary" he held out a badge that read he was a detective for the city of Philadelphia. Now I was really nervous. There were cops at my door. "Can I have a moment to get dressed?" I asked quietly. "Yes, we'll wait for you here until you're ready." The older detective answered.
I left the door open and ran up the stairs. I went into my bedroom and closed the door. I searched for my cell phone and remembered it was still in my purse from last night. I hurried into my closet and search for my bag. I dug into it and retrieved my cell. I unlocked it and saw I had 15 missed calls from Lana. I dialed her back as I grabbed for my grey, plain maxi dress from Forever 21 and a pair of gold Tom Ford sandals. Lana's answering machine came on. I hung up and dialed again and her machine picked up after the first ring again. "Oh my God, what's going on?" I asked out loud. "Ms. Barrish?!" One of the detectives yelled into the house, "We have to go soon. I'm going to have to ask that you hurry up". "Ok" I yelled back. I grabbed my Chanel purse from last night since all my identification and debit cards were in there. I didn't have time to switch out my bag. I quickly dialed Ricky since I knew Lana was with him and I got the same response, a voicemail. At that exact moment, I was kicking myself for not asking Aiden for his number last night.
I was so upset and scared; I didn't know what to do so I gathered my things and rushed downstairs to keep them from waiting any longer. I was greeted again by the scary detectives. I closed the door and locked it as I followed them into the elevator. Once, I entered the elevator and the doors closed, we rode to the lobby in silence. Once we walked out of the lobby, there were paparazzi swarming the entrance. There were camera's flashing, news reporters, and video cameras everywhere. Everyone was screaming questions to me at once and shoving microphones in my face. There were even normal people swarming around too with phones recording my paparazzi harassment. The two detectives were protecting and shielding me while pushing people out of the way. What the heck was going on? Who were these people and why were they here? What did they want from me? I began to panic as we ran to a black van with tinted windows parked at the curb. The older detective made it to the back passenger door first and flung it open and guided me inside. He closed the door and ran to the driver's seat while his partner sat shotgun. Those tinted windows couldn't stop the cameras from flashing or the screaming questions.
The detective pulled away from the curb leaving the screaming people in its rear view. "What have I gotten myself into?" I continually asked myself as we rode in silence. We drove for what seemed like an eternity but in actuality, it may have been about 30 minutes to a private and secluded Airport tucked away in the far Northeast of Philadelphia. Now, I really began to fear for the worst. What on earth is happening to me? I get escorted out of my home and now I'm about to get put on a plane? To where? For what reason? All I know is that one wild night has me in for an interesting ride.
