Chapter 1

“Corianna Marie Jones! If you don’t wake your ass up this instant it will no car and no phone for a month and no spring break this year!” I hear my lovely mother shout.

“Fine! I’m up!” although, I’m not really up. I’m awake, yes but no physically up. I’d much rather be physically asleep but no I have to go to hell.

Well, most people call it school. Ya know, same thing.

I guess I’ll tell you a little bit about me. My name is Corianna, like Cori and Anna put together. Yeah, my mom said she wanted me to have a unique name. I’m 19 and a senior in high school.

I know what you’re thinking, 19 and in high school? I’m not stupid. I didn’t fail a grade or get held back. When I was 5 me, my mom and dad got into a car accident. I broke my legs, yup both of them. I broke the right one from the knee down and the left one actually was the femur. That’s the thigh bone in case you didn’t know. Well, I ended up having to have surgery and by the time I could walk again it was January. Where I’m from, which is Georgia, we start school in August and end in May.

So my parents kept me out that year until August of course.

Though, I’m glad. I think about it a lot. About how different my life would be. And trust me it would be different. I know some kids that are a year older than me and let’s just say I get along with none of them.

Plus I probably wouldn’t be friends with Mandi, that’s my best friend. More like sisters if you ask me. We met in kindergarten and never separated since.

Speaking of her, I need to call her.

I quickly grab my phone off the bed side table and dial her number. She picks up on the third ring.

“What?” someone’s cranky.

“Well, hello to you too. Wake up. First day of school. I’ll pick you up in 30 and we’ll go by Josh’s.” I say all too quickly. I didn’t think about the fact that I have to pee. And well peeing while on the phone is weird no matter who you’re talking too.

“Mandi?” I faintly hear snoring.

“I’ll buy pancakes.”

“Pancakes? Okay. I’ll be ready! Bye!”

She hung up on me. Shouldn’t surprise me. She has a weird obsession with pancakes.

I hop off the bed and make a beeline to the bathroom. I do my business then hop in the shower.

Once I’m freshly bathed, I walk into my closet and slip on some dark skinny jeans, a white tank top with sequence on it and some dark grey boots. I blow dry and straighten my hair. I’ve kinda got this thing for makeup. I don’t go crazy with it but I love it. I put some natural color eye shadow and black eye liner and mascara on.

After I’m satisfied with my look, I grab all my things and walk down stairs.

Of course mom and dad are at the table. Dad’s reading the newspaper and mom is on her tablet. Both with a cup of coffee.

Dad is the first to notice me. “Good morning sweetie.”

“Morning dad, mom.” I say as I walk to the fridge to grab a water.

“I’m heading out. Getting Mandi for breakfast. I’ll see you later.” I give them both a kiss on the cheek.

“Okay sweetie. We might be working late so I’ll leave money for food if you and Mandi decide to stay here tonight.”
