December 1st 1940,
Grandmother and grandfather, Aaron and I are on a boat we are hoping in escaping to England, or America. However we have to find somewhere to hide as the Nazi's use the sea as their main route to get to the death camps. I do not know how long we will be able to carry on doing this. We are running out of food meaning we are unlikely to actually make it too much further as we need to take it in turns to steer the boat and without food giving us the energy we may not be able to go on. Grandfather hands me a piece of ham and a fishing rod to hopefully catch some fish. We ran out of bait for the fish just yesterday after making sure we had an amount for a couple of weeks.
That's when I feel something suddenly all around us submarines come up from the depths of the water. The Gustapo. Straight away I see the horrid mark the Nazi's use for their pride and it's obvious we are going to be arrested and most likely shot or sent to a death camp. I look at my grandparents in fear as they climb aboard the boat not even allowing us to pack as they drag us to the prisoner boat. My grandfather struggles and a nazi shoots him.
This is the first time I have seen someone been killed. And it was my grandfather. My eyes fill with tears but I don't dare cry in front of these monsters. Could you imagine it if I did? My heart breaks as I stand where I am suddenly been pushed on the ship where there are cells. My grandmother Aaron and I all hold onto each other it's as though we know what is going to happen now.
I know we are on the outskirts of Germany so they are probably going to drag us to a train station. I just hope we don't end up at a death camp. "If they ask your age you are sixteen, okay?" My grandmother whispers and I just nod. My poor brother may end up been split up from us both. I heard what they do to children. What happens if they catch me? I hope not.
