1 week later – Brie’s POV:

“Why isn’t he calling and answering my phone calls?” I asked myself as I sit on my study table.

A week has passed and I never saw Ned again. He hasn’t even left a word, letter, message or phone call. I was beginning to be worried.

What could have happened to him? Is he all right? Did he travel without telling me? Did he lose his phone? Did he run away? All those questions popped into my head. The worst question I ever thought and was scared of was What if he got bored of me and found someone better?

I cried for 5 consecutive days, day and night. I went over to his house and asked if he was there, but they told me Ned just went out. I asked his best friend, Carl, if he has any news about where Ned is but he also doesn’t know.

I went to my best friend’s house and cried. I needed a shoulder to cry on, and she was the only one I could lean to.

“How could he do this to me? He said he’d never leave me. He said he loves me. But, why? Why does everyone I love leave me?” I told Jo.

She hugged me and said, “It’s going to be okay, Brie. I know he will never leave you.”

Jo’s POV:

I went to Life Hospital and went inside room 215.

“Hey. I brought fruits.” I said.

“Hey. Thanks.” Ned answered.

He was holding a picture of him and Brie together.

“You know, Brie went to my house last night and cried.” I told him. “She was really upset.”

“I know. If you ever get the chance to talk to her again, tell her I’m sorry.” Ned replied.

“How long are you going to keep your sickness a secret from her?”

“I don’t know. If I tell her now, she will cry again in pain, knowing I will die soon. I don’t want her to be sad.” Ned explained.

“At least tell her you’re sick and you need her. She’ll accept you, no matter in what condition you are now; I can tell she will never abandon you.” I told him.

Ned sighed. “Tonight, I want you to tell her everything.”

I went home and phoned Brie.

“Brie, I need to tell you something,” I gulped. “Ned’s in the hospital right now. He’s suffering from leukaemia and he’s going to die soon if he doesn’t get surgery. He won’t listen to me, his family and even his best friend about going for the chemotherapy. Brie, I want you to please, please take care of him and never leave his side.”

I hanged up the call.

Brie’s POV:

I ran to the hospital and went to Ned’s ward. I opened the door slowly, and I saw him standing and looking out the window.

Tears immediately fell through my eyes when I saw him. He turned around and looked down. I walked closer to him.

“How dare you!” I said, crying. “You told me you’ll never leave me!”

“I never left you.” he replied.

“How come you never told me about your sickness? You don’t want me to pity you?”

“No.”

“Then what?! Did you know how long I’ve waited just for you to answer my phone or even just text me back?”

He suddenly pulled me closer to him and hugged me.

“The reason why I didn’t tell you was, I didn’t want to put a burden on you because of my sickness. I figured that when I tell you, you’d leave me. I thought if I leave you without saying a word, you don’t want to see to me anymore. That way, if I die, you won’t be sad that I left.”

I cried harder than before. I never cried for someone or something like this.

“I promised you I won’t leave you, did I? I’m not going to break my promise to you.” I told him. “You’re going to do the chemotherapy right?”

He just sighed. “If I do it, I still don’t know whether I’ll live or not. But here’s the thing, whether I’ll live or not, I won’t leave your side no matter what happens. You got that?”

I nodded. “I love you so much.”

“I love you too, Brie. Forever and Always.” He answered.
