Chapter 24

The meeting was soon over and we started a light training sesion in preperation. We cooled off and went in for some food. I just made an omlette. I wasnt too hungry but actually nervous. I ate and went up to my room and fell asleep for i dont know how many hours, but when i woke up it was dawn.
We trained again. After i felt sick. Dead sick. We were leaving tomorrow and would reach the territory border by night fall. We organised to camp there and have gaurds on watch full time.
                When we woke i would be the one to set foot in Her territory. The spell as i read would not stop them from getting injured but it would protect them from magic she may cast. The whole army is skilled enough on foot so they shouldnt get too badly injured and very few killed in this war.
For now i organised a bbq to celebrate the last night in our own beds, everyone else with their mates. 10 men were on the bbqs and 4 women were making different types of salads. Sam was trying to demonstrate his 'bbq skills' while burning and dropping meat. I saw Neva sitting on a log staring into the fire. She was sad. I sat beside her. "Whats wrong?" She sighed at me and walked into the house gently dragging me by the sleeve. We sat on my bed "Im afraid. Not for me for Sam. I really dont want to hurt him but I dont love him except as a friend. My horse, Scooter loves him, but i dont. I talked to him about it he agreed. Were friends but not mates" I nodded and heard a knock on my door. "Ill be out in a while. Pack buisness" I shouted at the disrupter. "Cara, I can help you with this delema you face" Said Rita. I looked at neva and whispered, "she can help you. Trust me. " With that in glided the Moon Goddess. Her white dress was stained with bbq sauce. As was her face. "Couldnt miss this bash your throwing. I also couldnt help myself" Neva and i giggled. I mindlinked Rita the problem. She nodded with thought. "Bring him here please" And with that Sam springed up the stairs and shut the door. "Is this what you both really want" Sam nodded and explained how he still wanted a mate, and Neva how she did not. Rita smiled softly, wiping her mouth with her ivory sleeve, leaving it with a huge bbq stain across it.
She began mumbling words and Sam and Neva closed their eyes. Within seconds i saw them wince as if a bone had been snapped. They opened their eyes and their marks faded into nothing. It was done. They jumped up and hugged each other, me and then Rita. Sam twitched "Your mate is here" Rita said softly "Now go get 'em tiger" she said hyper and Sam sprinted out the door. I had never even seen him run that fast to get food. "Im going to get more ribs. See yas" she said before turning her dress into a baby pink cocktail dress, masking her scent and power walking down to the bbq. "She is definatly your aunt" Neva said grinning, feeling free. And we enjoyed the rest of the night. Dancing to our hearts content.
After our feet got sore from standing on each others. We sat down, Neva had a raspberry martini. That surprised me because she never drinks, she looked at me and my cider "Last drink me you, Sam and his mate might ever have. I invited him over when he finds her" I smiled.
                 She finished the martini and moved onto energy drinks. I saw Sam walking over with this beautiful woman. She had long, brown hair and georgous hazel eyes. (A.N. Picture here)

She was wearing a light green flow type dress with a pink rose as the belt buckle around the waist. "Guys this is Glic. My mate" Sam said. Neva looked back at them and smiled. "Hi I'm Cara, and this is Neva." Something sparked in Nevas eyes. "Hey, your that girl that i presume trained with royals! Your a really good fighter" Neva said with a happy smile. "Thank you, you are fantastic also" Glic answered. A shyness flushed on her cheeks turning them bright red. "Guys were gonna skip the rest of the bbq and get to know each other before we leave in the morning" Sam said. "Okay" Neva and i chorised. They turned and headed for the house. Neva and i went back to the dance floor for another hour or so before we got hungry and wondered if the moon goddess ate all the ribs.
Soul was standing next to Luke telling him he was burning the sausages. He stated how he didnt want to give anyone food poisning. She laughed as one of them caught on fireand started spitting at him as he waved the tongs at it trying to fight it as if it were a dragon. Soul doubled over in stitches from laughing and so did we. After many spits of grease in Muffins face, we finaly draged Muffin to the kitchen for some anti-septic spray. Soul told him to go to bed and she would be up in an hour or so. We left him a drop of whiskey to 'ease the pain'. Neva and i got ribs and then went dancing again. By the time the bbq was over it was 20 to 11. Our last night. I invited Neva to my room because Sam and Glic were jn there watching a movie. Glic knew about Sam and Neva but she also knew they were just friends now. Neva and i watched Red and Red 2 again. Just for fun.
The next morning everyone woke early. We packed our weapons, tents and clothes into the jeeps, and were gone by 8am. I couldnt count how many jeeps were going, but it was alot. There were 2 drivers per jeep. It was a 12 hour journey. About 10 jeeps stopped into a small cafe for lunch, 4 hours into our journey. We told the others they could stop where ever they wanted for a meal, when ever they wanted. The cafe was lovely, old fasioned and most importantly the food was delicious. I got a ceaser salad and BLT. What? Im a hungry horse. Neva got a 12 ounce steak, chips and onion rings. She also brought her comfort dohnuts. Soul and Muffin were in a separate jeep as were Sam and Glic. We had to sedate Neva most of the trip because she does not sit for long. Thats why shes in my jeep. Not Sam and Glics. We also tie her to the chair so she cant stab anyone, again...
4 hours later we made another stop to let Neva, ummmm, well, sprint basicaly. And she did. After we, essentially 'walked' Neva, we went for something to eat in a bar. It was cosy, but a bit cluttered with junk stuck to the walls. Again the food was great and Neva got another 12 ounse steak, chips and onion rings and i got garlic mushrooms and the steak too. The waitress looked horrified when we, 2 skinny but toned girls, ordered them and the others just started placing bets on who would finish them. The food arrived and me and Neva savoured it and finished it all and the boys leftovers. Were hungry horses.
We eventually got to the camp where alot of tents were set up and there was already patrols going on. Most of them had gone out to get food. There was only me, Neva, Sam, Glic, Soul, Muffin and a few other leaders left there. We decided to go over the plans. We were argueing about who would go in first when Glic said "What if Cara goes in first, i can but up a barrier of trees around the rest of the army, and as soon as Celestia is out, i bring down the trees and the rest of the army attacks" We all looked at her in shock except Neva and Sammy. "How?" We asked. She shrugged and showed us a tattood crest of the IronWood herd on her arm. That herd was the most powerful around, until one day the forest was burnt around the royals and they all died. Poor Glic, loosing her leaders. Neva shot me a look saying 'we'll explain later' and i nodded. We agreed Glics idea was best and the leaders left to speak with their mates who were back home minding the packs and herds. "Glic, how?" I questioned. She began explaining how when she was a filly she was sent to live with her aunts and didnt get back until she was mature enough to take the throne. Her parents were taking her to the spot surrounded by nature to get the leadership of the herd. Their best fighter was there too. "Calumbo?" I was dazed. Upset. She continued and told me how they heard the fire. And her parents told Calumbo to take her and run. Calumbo was a were wolf but his parents wanted him to get to know other shifters as well. They ran until he pushed her into a hole in the ground before leaping down it himself and shifting because his thick, wolf skin could protect Glic better. There was a helicopter flying over, tossing water all over the fire, and it wasnt long before the 2 had to run. They ran back to his pack and she was there until i called the packs and herds together for the final bbq.
It took a while to sink in. The IronWoods had always been conected with natures plants and animals, like Nevas herd to Ice. No one was to know Glic is the only decendent left of their royal family. We went to bed early as tomorrow, the war would start. I slept peacefully dreaming of Calumbo the first night we found eachother.
