Chapter 3-

Like some cheesy Rom-Com

Josh figured that the best way to start the letter was like that, about the day he first met her and the day he realized she was the one. Josh cringed at the voice inside his head, 'the one' sounded so cheesy and Josh Hyland was not cheesy. Well, until he met Maddie. Love changes people. Before he could start writing about the beginning of it all he had to write some introduction. Dear Madison? Too formal. Dear Maddie? Still too formal. To Maddie? That sounds too much like he is writing her a christmas card. Josh knew writing this letter wouldn't be easy but he didn't know he would fall at the first hurdle. Then it came to him- My Maddie Moo. The cheesiest nickname of all. A massive grin spread across his face as it all came flooding back to him.

"Josh, what are you doing standing outside my room?" Paige said appearing at the end of the hallway with a bag of chips in one hand and a can of coke in the other. He had been standing there for maybe about 15 minutes but it felt like hours. He was debating if he should ask Paige about it, he even started wondering if he should do it. All the possible things that could go wrong were swirling in his head, playing out over and over. "Josh?" Paige asked this time a bit more concerning rather than the typical big sister stay-away-from-my-room lecture voice he had heard quite a few times. "Well, I figured you're a, you know, a girl and well she is a girl and I thought maybe you could help me?" He asked her feeling slightly awkward and child-like. A smile creeped on Paige's face. "Come in" she said kicking open the door. Josh followed her in without saying a word. Paige placed the can of coke on her bedside table and sat on the edge of her bed patting the space beside her for me to sit. Josh raised his eyebrows and Paige laughed swatting her hand as if to say 'never mind'. She opened her chips and held them up to Josh, "want one?" she asked. Josh shook his head and Paige shrugged. The silence that followed would most definitely have been awkward if it wasn't between the two siblings who were extremely close and comfortable in each others company. "So it take it we are talking about Maddie?" Paige says breaking the silence, Josh nods. Paige looks at Josh and smirks, "and I'm guessing you want to ask her out?" Josh started to panic a bit, am I that obvious? He couldn't help but ask himself that over and over until Paige interupted. "Yes it is that obvious but don't worry because it's obvious Maddie likes you too" this time Paige smiles genuinely. "Do you really think so?" Josh asks innocently. Paige answers immediately, "Yes. Now we just have to plan how you're going to do it."

Paige was a great big sister. Josh knew that, without her he wouldn't have had the courage to ask Maddie out and without her he would probably have even less of a chance of getting Maddie back than he already does, since the whole letter thing was Paige's idea. He wished Brooke could have been there too, she always knew how to deal with things but she was away at college. He couldn't help but wonder if she had kept in touch with maddie and if she had told her what heppened. He didn't have the heart to tell Brooke, she thought him and Maddie were a perfect couple and he couldn't even begin to imagine how dissapointed she would have been that they broke up, of what he did but most of how disappointed she would be in him. Stop thinking about it Josh, he told himself over and over. Guilt isn't going to help you now, you have to finish the letter.

They were walking to the lunch hall together to meet the rest of the group and they were discussing their newest problem, an overlap of their sport commitments. Tonight Maddie had a master class with some coaches from Russia and Josh had a big football game. Josh needed Maddie at the game, not only was she his good luck charm but he had a plan for tonight but of course she couldn't know that. "I want to come so badly but Abby will literally kill me if I miss it" Maddie says matter of factly. Josh could see her point he has known Abby as long as he has lived and it was safe to say she was not his favorite person. "Fair point," Josh sighs "what's the times again?" Maddie stops for a minute to pull her hair free from the strap of her bag. Josh couldn't help but stare at how soft and beautiful it looked. "6 till 8:30" she says breaking him out of the transe. Josh mentally slapped himself, stupid half hour, "I have to be at my game at 8." Maddie looked down, obviously disappointed. This was no ordinary game, he needed Maddie to come. They walked for a bit both deep in thought then a smile spread across Maddie's face, "I've got it!" Josh smiles too, he can't help it Maddie's smile was almost contagious. "Half an hour is pushing it but I think I can get away 15 minutes early, if you can get ther 15 minutes late?" she looks at Josh hopeful. Josh knew he probably could get in trouble for being late but he figured 15 minutes wouldn't hurt. "Ok, I will pick you up outside the studio at quarter past" Josh said and Maddie nodded as they approached the rest of the group sitting at a table.

Josh was nervous, really nervous, as he sat in his car outside of the Abby Lee dance company. It was 14 minutes past but there was still no sign of Maddie and he was beginning to panic. He hadn't been driving for long, he was only just 16, but if the traffic was good he could get there in about 5 minutes. Josh jumped a little as he heard banging on his window. Of course it was only Maddie and the car was locked, he looked at the clock and it was exactly quarter past. He unlocked the door and Maddie jumped in securing her seatbelt. "Go" she said pointing towards the road. He had been too busy staring at her, she was still in her dance crop top and booty shorts. It was hard to see her showing so much skin. While he was driving Maddie put a white short sleeved top on which had cut outs at either side, flashing her baby blue crop top and part of her toned stomach, and pulled a pair of rolled up light denim jeans over her shorts. She pulled her hair out of her ponytail and shook it out, adding a blue bow for school spirit which pulled her fringe away from her face. Her hair fell perfectly her lose curls cascaded down her back effortlessly. She didn't bother with make up, she had mascara in from the morning and was luckily blessed with naturally flawless skin. She turned to Josh and smiled as they pulled up to the parking lot, "This better be good game because Abby is definitely not too happy with me." Josh laughed as he got out the car, "don't worry it will" he whispered.

Josh's coach wasn't too bothered by his late arrival he was just glad he turned up. He was his star player after all. The score was tied and the end of the game was close in sight. Maddie was standing near the middle surronded by strangers, the rest of the girls were due to arrive shortly. They had went back to Chloe's to shower and get ready. "MADDIE!" Kendall's familiar voice squealed, joining her in the stands followed by the rest of the girls. "How's the game going?" Nia asked taking her place on the seat beside her. "It's a tie but they are playing good so they should catch up" Maddie replied confidently, all the girls nodded. Chloe half-shouted over to Maddie, "Abby was pretty mad but we covered for you so she is cool now." Maddie nodded as if to say thank you and went back to watching the game she didn't want to miss it. They were in their last 5 minutes and Josh had just recieved the ball. "COME ON JOSH" Maddie yelled. Kendall giggled, she was a total girly girl and wasn't in to football at all. "GO JOSH" Paige screamed pointing toward the other side of the pitch. A guy from the other team attempted to tackle him but Corbin, a guy who was also in their little group and was Chloe's boyfriend, tackled him before he could. "YESSS CORBIN" Chloe shouted. The whole stand errupted as Josh pulled out a touch down, with only 30 second of game play left. By the time both teams got into their formations the whistle blew and Franklin Regionals football team went crazy. Maddie watched the big screen while cheering for the boys, she saw her face appear on the big screen and turned to the girls as if to ask 'what the hell?' They all pointed down at Josh who was standing on the football field motioning for her to come down, Maddie cringed badly but she knew she better go down since all the cameras were on her. When she finally reached Josh, he pulled her in close. Maddie could feel her heart beating hard against her chest being so close to him. "Fancy going out some time?" Josh whispered smoothly into her ear. Maddie's heart leapt, this is what she had been waiting for. She looked up and saw the two of them on the big screen and laughed, "does that make me your girlfriend?" she asked smirking. Josh laughed too, whilst tightening his grip on her waist. "Only if you want it to?" Josh retorted flashing his oh so famous smile. Maddie placed her lips on his and kissed him with everything she had. Sparks went of in Josh's stomach and his heart began to beat faster. Maddie pulled away swiftly but still kept her arms wrapped firmly round his neck. "Does that answer your question?" Maddie laughed. They could hear the 'oohs' and 'awws' coming from the audience. "This is so like some cheesy rom-com movie," Maddie giggled, "next thing I know you will be giving me some silly nickname like Maddie-Moo!" Josh kissed her again and Maddie didn't complain, she loved it. When Josh finally pulled away he grabbed her hand saying, "I think it's time to go, Maddie Moo!"

The memory was so clear to him. So happy yet so painful as he knew what happened next. It was all too much, he couldn't look at the paper anymore. Josh got up and walked towards his bedroom window. Maddie only lived across the street and he could see her window from his room. The curtains were still closed, just like he dreaded. She obviously still hasn't been out yet.
