Chapter 3- Jealous

All of my classes were short today because we have a prep rally. Middle school prep rally's suck. I've seen high school ones and they're so cool. I can't wait to be in high school.

My friend Meghan texts me:
Want to skip the prep rally and go to the band room?

Meghan and I have become even better friends this year. She is actually my very first friend. I was always bad at making friends but Meghan and I just clicked. I'm going over to her house tonight. This will be a new experience for me. I'm so excited, I'm even more excited that my mom is letting me go.

Of course I want to skip this prep rally but not getting caught by the teacher will be the most difficult.

I've always been a good girl, I've never skipped class, I've never failed any assignments in school, I've never talked back to my parents, nothing bad. Now I'm skipping a prep rally. I should really reevaluate my life. What if they call my mom? They do take attendance... I don't know how I feel about skipping. Whatever, I'm going to the band room.

I walk out of the gym and head towards the band room. A teacher catches sight of me walking away. "Where are you going?" She asks me. I refuse to turn around, so I continue to walk. "Excuse me! Young lady!" She yells as I rapidly walk faster. "To the restroom!" I yell. Soon her voice becomes faint and I realize that I'm running towards the band room. There was no restroom down this hallway. Hopefully she doesn't follow me.

I see all of the kids from my band class looking at me as I barge into the room. I try to catch my breath but no use in trying. I wipe the sweat off my face. I'm pretty out of shape and that run kind of killed me.

I take a seat next to my friend Meghan. She takes out a ton of instruments from the locked band room and hands instruments to the other students who skipped the prep rally with us. I don't know if she is allowed to give random students instruments but Mr.Jerald did give her the key to the door. The teacher likes her the most out of anyone else in the class. I've heard rumors that he loves Tyler also but I've also heard that Tyler sucks at playing clarinet but all the girls seem to be around him when he plays. The girl's parents really like Tyler too. I saw Tyler getting into a SUV full of girls yesterday. I was later told, that they were just having a sleep over together. All those girls and just one boy...strange.

I soon hear the terrible sound of a clarinet coming from one of the private rooms in the band room. The band room has 3 private rooms where you can go and practice on your own time. I like the private rooms. I like spending my time in there even though I'm terrible at the drums. I didn't even choose to play the drums, it's just an instrument I was forced to play.

Anyways, Meghan opens the door to the private room and the sound of the terrible clarinet becomes louder. I almost cover my ears when I see Tyler sitting in there. So the rumor is true then. "Come on Ayanna" Meghan tells me to come in.
There are 3 chairs and a stand to place the sheet music on. "Wow this room appears really small on the outside but is really big." I say looking around. Suddenly a hand grabs mine and pulls me down. "Ayanna! Look at this song. Do you know it?" I look to see who touched my hand. It was Tyler. "Oh yea I've heard of this song. This was the first song I learned to play on the drums." I say and look at Meghan to see her frowning at me. "What's wrong?" I ask her. She says nothing and leaves the private room. Great she left me in here with him. I get this weird feeling in my stomach but I can't describe it.

"Ayanna?" Asks Tyler. "Yes? Yea I like this song. Do you know how to play it on your clarinet?" I ask trying not to be awkward. "You're so cute." He says and turns his sheet music. He pulls the instrument up to his mouth and begins to play. I can just feel my ears ringing. He is so bad, but I smile as I watch him play his heart out. You can tell he is really trying. He will get better.

I snap out of my thoughts and I remember what happened just a few minutes ago. Why was Meghan frowning at me? Does she not like me talking to him? Was it because he grabbed my hand? I didn't mean to make her upset if that's the case.

I stand up and head for the door and Tyler looks up at me. "Where are you going? I haven't finished my part. You're supposed to play your part next." He says. "Meghan seems upset with me. I'm going to talk to her." I put my hand on the door knob but I hear a ton of ruckus behind me cause my pupils to dilate. "She's upset? I'm coming with you, let's go talk to her." I look on the ground to see the stand knocked over and all the sheet music on the ground. Mr.Jerald will flip if he sees this mess.

"Meghan! Are you alright? Ayanna said you're upset with her." Says Tyler as he finds Meghan in the instrument room crying. My eyes widen and I take a seat next to her. "What's the matter?" I ask her. "Tyler can you let me talk to Ayanna alone?" She asks Tyler. He leaves the room and gives me a thumbs up as if it's a sign of good luck.

"Are you upset with me Meghan?" I ask peering into her face. "Yes I am." She says. "Well can you tell me why? I don't know what I did." I try to reason with her. "You're the first person I'm telling this to, I like Tyler. I like him a lot." She looks at me as she says this. Whoa. My friend has a crush on Tyler! "You should tell him then. You guys can be boyfriend and girlfriend." I say to her. Her telling me this doesn't hurt me one bit cause I was told that if your friend likes a boy that you like then it's only fair to let her have him. It can ruin the friendship if both of you fight over him. Kind of like bro code.

"You don't understand, I think Tyler likes you. He grabbed your hand, he likes to sit next to you and he talks about you to me all the time and it's annoying." She says as she stands up. "How about this, just stay away from him cause I want him to like me. Okay?" "Okay cool. It doesn't matter if I'm friends with him or not. Just tell him how you feel." I say not realizing the words she just told me.

We both leave the instrument room and I can see Tyler talking to a group of girls. These girls really like him. One of the girls runs over to me, Meghan went to the restroom to fix her face. "Hey Ayanna!" She says to me. Her name is Ashlyn. "Hi Ashlyn. What's up?" I ask her. "Did you know Tyler and Alexis are dating?! She just asked him out!" Oh no. What about Meghan? "That's cool." I say to her. "I know right!" She runs back to Tyler and Alexis. Isn't she the blabber mouth?

Should I tell Meghan? She might think Tyler told me this though. She doesn't want me to hang around him. I have to respect the code. Tyler shouts my name out and I turn towards him to see him waving at me. He mouths something to me and I just stare at him. I turn and run away toward the bathroom to check on Meghan.

This is going to be hard to for her.
