I Work Alone

Chapter 1

Arrow's P.O.V.

I'm hiding behind a pillar in the village center. No I'm not a criminal, I actually eliminate them. So I'm an assassin. Yup, I'm in a group of 5 guys who promised only to take out criminals. We haven't gotten in trouble with the government and we won't as long as we only take out wanted criminals.

Our target today is awful, to sum it up he's basically a serial killer. His name is Colin Thompson. We plan on getting him before she does. She always messes up what we try to do. Her name is Alaska, weird name right? Anyways, she's another assassin who does the same thing but she works alone.

I don't know why she works alone and why she always gets our targets specifically, but it's really annoying.

"Here he comes boss." my right hand man Daniel says. yeah I'm the leader I hate it when try call me boss but they insist.

"Ok get ready. Cross your fingers she doesn't show." I say back in a hushed voice. I hold up 3 fingers and count down to 1. Just as I was about to give the signal to go, I hear a muffled cry of pain and I turn and see Alaska stab Colin in the back with her hand covering his mouth 'shhh'ing him.

"Dammit!" I yell. I look at her and she catches me looking, winks and runs off.

Alaska's P.O.V.

I wake up to a bright morning and the sun barely peeking up over the horizon. Another day, another target. I'm crossing my fingers he's there. Im Alaska by the way. 23 years old and an assassin. that's such a harsh term but what else can you call it?

Anyways, the 'he' I referred to was Arrow Night. He's another assassin who can't kill people on his own, so he needs the help of others. 4 other to be exact. Well, the target today is Colin Thompson. An idiot who runs around killing people. This'll be fun.

I'm pretty sure Arrow's gonna show up with his buddies. In fact here he is! Yes I'm hiding but don't want to give away where I am. He chose behind a pillar? Oh come on! Well, being on a roof top isn't much better but still.

I see him counting down to his men. Shit! Where's Colin? I've promised myself that I'll always get Arrow's target before him. Oh there he is...sneaking up behind someone. Oh heck no! I jump off the 2 story building, grabbing him and stabbing him in the back covering his mouth and 'shhh'ing him as I lay him on the ground.

"Dammit!" I hear and I snap my head over to see Arrow fuming. I wink then taking my dagger out of Colin's back and run off.

You probably are wondering, "Why are you an assassin Alaska?" Well, that's a very good question it's all started when (cliche right):

17 years ago

"Mommy mommy guess what!" I yell running up to my mother jumping into her arms.

"What dear?" she asks with a knowing smile.

"Its my birthday! Im going to be 6!" I said while holding up 7 fingers.

"Yes you are," my mom said while laughing and putting down a finger, "6."

"Run! Everyone hide! We're under attack!" I hear from the guards around the village yell and then chaos erupts. My mother puts me down, takes my hand running towards our house. We we're only 5 feet away from the door when I hear my mom cry out in pain and fall over clutching her sotmach.

"MOM!" I yell running over to her and kneeling on the ground.

"I'll be fine dear," my mom says but when she tries to stand up she just falls over. I hear a laugh so I look up behind her shoulder and I see a middle aged woman who is smiling evily at me.

"Happy Birthday Alaska." She says then turns around and runs off but dissapears a foot later.

"Alaska look at me," my mom says reaching up and touching my cheek, "your father and I love you very much, you know that right?"  I nod and wipe the tears from my eyes, my dad runs over cradles my mother in his arms.

"No, you can't leave me Kendra, you can't! Hang in there I'll get you a doct-" my dad says holding back the tears.

"No, I have to go soon. I love you so much and take care of our little girl,"  interrupting my dad. When she says that she looks at me and smiles. She pulls my dad's face down to hers and gives him one last kiss. Then she sighs in content, looks up and closes her eyes for the last time.

Several years later, my dad died too. He couldn't handle all the stress of running the village without my mother. We were the heads of the village we lived in and we had almost everything we wanted. My birthday was a big deal in the village so everyone was going to be celebrating it. Now I realize that it was a perfect time to attack; everyone there and carefree. I later found out that Her name is Nastia and that she is a sorcereress who apparently got on bad terms with my family and was constantly seeking revenge. I made it my goal to get revenge, so at the age of 14 I started to train to be an assassin with the help of others and other assassins whom I came across jumping from place to place. My only goal was to eliminate her and to be honest, I have no plans for after that. And that basically brings us up to the present where I am hiding in a bush. Yes a bush, I heard a noise on my way back to my 'hut' you could call it. 

"But boss, it wasn't our fault!" I hear someone whine like a little girl. I held in a laugh but then heard more voices.

"Yeah well, next time don't mess up Daniel." Im guessing the 'Boss' said. 

"Sorry." Daniel said and that time I had to let out a laugh because he sounded like a little kid who got their candy stolen.

"Who's there!" I hear thier boss say and they all stop walking. 

Shit! They heard me! I think and just as I hear the bush moving I get up and run away, but as a run away I get a glimpse of the guys who were in the woods and it was...Arrow?
