*Hello everyone.*
Alyssa
Preternatural. Beyond what is normal or natural.
That's what we are. We have the ability to do extraordinary things. Mind control, controlling earthly elements, the ability to breathe underwater. These are only a few abilities that Preternatural's can have.
Preternatural's started showing up around 250 years ago, 50 years after the solar flare that wiped out nearly everybody. After the solar flare, there was believed to be only 7,000 humans left.
That 7,000 started to die off from infection or just because they were killing each other. But they continued to reproduce, attempting to save the human race.
Their offspring developed amazing abilities. Experts believe it was because of the high radiation levels at the time of the solar flare. It changed the genetic material of mankind. That was the last generation of humans.
But Preternatural's weren't the only offspring that the human race created. Leviathans were also created.
Levithans are a mixture of Preternatural's, hybrid animals, and all sorts of evil. Leviathans hunt Preternatural's. They're the reason that the Preternatural's have started to decrease.
Harnessing Preternatural powers, Leviathans grow stronger when they kill us. That's why they hunt us.
Some Leviathans are as strong as 100 of us combined, which is why they are such a threat to us. A threat to me.
I am a Preternatural. But I'm different than the rest.
A normal Preternatural possesses only two abilities. I possess three abilities. I'm able to manipulate ice, Duplicate myself and I have the ability to cause pain with just my mind.
But with more abilities, that puts me at a greater risk of being hunted. Leviathans are drawn to my energy.
"Alyssa Garter." My mother says, pulling my attention back to her. "Your student advisor told me you were caught freezing your homework." She says. I don't look up at her. "Look at me." She commands.
I look up to see her criticizing stare. "You know the rules." I roll my eyes a bit. "You'll spend two nights in the corridor." My head snaps up.
"Are you serious?" I shout. "They don't feed us in there." My heart races.
"Do not raise your voice." She calmly says. "Alyssa, you disobeyed the rules. There are consequences for your actions." My mother looks down at her plate.
"Only the cruel parents stick their children in the corridor." I snap.
"I only want you to do the best in life. Hopefully this can teach you to obey all rules set by those above us." My mothers bright blue eyes look back at me. "You're not allowed to use any of your abilities, and you did anyways." She stands up.
"Pack for two days, and two nights." She says.
"You could have just said "Pack for two days."" I reply, also standing up. "Either way, you're sending me away to suffer."
"Alyssa." She says, walking over to me. I stare at her striking blue eyes, which match mine. She tucks a stran of my dirty blonde hair, behind my ear. "You are my daughter." She says.
"You look so much like your father." My mother says, a small smile forming on her sharp features. "Your beautiful blonde hair. You got that from him. Your nose. I see him in you." She whispers. "You're so much like him. He was just as rebellious and as stubborn as you." For a second, I think I see tears forming.
But as soon as I thought I saw tears, they were gone. Just like ghosts.
"Mother." I say. She raises her eyebrows at me.
"Yes, Alyssa?" She questions.
"Do you love me?" I ask, and she freezes.
For a couple seconds, everything is dead silent. The only thing that could be heard was the sound of my uneven breathing.
"You are my daughter." Is what she answers with. "To love is to accept destruction." She says, before walking out of the dining room.
I feel tears slide down my cheeks. I furiously wipe at my cheeks.
"I love you too." I whisper.
In the world that I live in, love is the root of all evil. Loving someone is frowned upon. To love someone is to act dangerously without thought. To love is to accept destruction.
It hurts that my own mother wouldn't be willing to say she loves me. Nurturing and providing care for me for seventeen years...and she can not tell me she loves me. My father told me every night that he loved me. But that was the death of him.
Walking through the all glass hallway of the living quarters, I stare at the city. Drones fly through the sky, illuminating the city sky. I wonder what it would be like to touch the ground. In my entire life, I've never touched the ground.
Arriving at my dorm, my screen pops up.
"Please select your necessary items." It says.
I enter in the basic needs such as my clothes and bodily hygiene tools. In seconds, my computer has everything laid out in front of me in a bag.
"Alyssa." My mother calls through the intercom. "We must leave now, lockdown is in fifteen minutes." I look down. She's probably elated to send me away. That's what she does best.
As we walk down the long, and dreary hallways of the corridor, my mind begins to wonder.
What would it be like to touch the ground? To see a forest? I've read about them in graphics, forests look absolutely magnificent.
Suddenly a door shuts behind me. "I'll be back in two days and two nights." My mother says, before turning around.
"I love you!" I yell. She stops, but she doesn't turn to look at me. "Please mother, just tell me you love me." I plead.
"I bid you goodbye." She responds, before walking off. After that, my heart seems to deflate.
"That's harsh." Someone says, causing me to jump. I turn around to see three other preternatural's gazing at me.
"Alyssa?"
Well I hope you liked it. Let me know how I could fix it❤️
