Dean and Cas decided to spend their Christmas morning tangled together on the sofa watching "Miracle on 34th Street." Cas thought it strange that people believed more in Santa Claus than they did in Jesus, but he enjoyed the movie none the less.
Dean didn't care much either. As long as his brother doesn't come bursting through the door and see him with his arms wrapped around another man. Which was unlikely, since his street was only just plowed 10 minutes ago.
"Crap," Dean muttered, grabbing his phone sitting next to him.
"What?" Cas asked, not looking away from the movie.
"I have to text Jo and tell her what our plans are."
"Who's Jo?" Cas asked, glancing up at Dean.
Dean paused mid-text. "She's a friend and a co-worker."
"Oh."
"I'm not dating her."
"I didn't ask."
Dean ran his thumb over the text pad. Would it matter if he had a girlfriend? It's not like Cas and Dean were dating. They were just... cuddling on the couch together. That doesn't mean they're dating.
"I've never had a girlfriend," Dean confirmed.
"Neither have I," Cas commented, pretending to watch the T.V.
Dean shook his head and continued to type his message to Jo.
"Merry Christmas, Jo! Sam & Jess won't b here until tomorrow due to a canceled flight. Were planning on having a small get together tomrrw if u were available. Tell Ellen i said hi if she can't come. See ya."
Dean pressed "Send" and set his phone beside him on the couch. Cas was silent for a couple moments before speaking.
"Have you had any boyfriends?"
Dean flinched. "W-What?"
"You said you've never had any girlfriends, so I asked if you've had any boyfriends."
Dean swallowed carefully. He felt his breaths become short and quick as he filed through his thoughts.
"No, Cas. I haven't." It was only partially a lie.
Cas paused again, dragging his fingers across Dean's arm.
"You don't have to be afraid," Cas whispered.
He felt Dean's breath hitch and shudder when he cleared his throat. Whatever Dean was about to say next Cas already knew. He could tell the moment they first hugged.
It only takes a small spark to ignite a wild fire.
"I'm not afraid," Dean corrected. "I'm just... trying to get use to this."
"Getting use to being attracted to an angel or being attracted to men in general?"
"Heh," Dean breathed, surprised by Cas's bluntness. "I'm n-not sure. Being in love with an angel is pretty scary, I'm not sure anything could top that."
Cas smiled big. His eyes crinkled and his gums showed and his nose went up until it looked like a pink button. Dean laughed at the sight of it, not realizing what caused this broken angel to smile so wide.
"What's wrong with your face?" Dean chuckled, lightly kissing his small nose.
"Dean Winchester, the righteous hero who has been through Hell and back—"
"—now I wouldn't say that—"
"—loves me; a fallen angel."
Cas watched Dean's lips part in realization. Being in love with an angel.
Dean let his mouth open and close a few times, his face softening. "I..."
Cas smiled small this time. "It's okay if you didn't mean it. It was a slip of words. I understand, Dean."
Dean shook his head slowly. "No. I... I meant what I said."
Cas believed that perhaps God does answer prays.
