We walked out of the building and began our way to school, which was apparently not far from here, Maxxie had said. We walked in a pleasant silence, until halfway, when he glanced at me and frowned.

"What happened to your forehead?" He asked, raising an eyebrow. Oh God, what do I say? My dad beats me up everyday? My dad does worse things than that sometimes?

"Uh, I ran into a pole." I lie, and he nods. I quickly change the subject and he starts telling me about his love for dancing and acting. I was surprised he wasn't a model, to be honest. But a dancer, close enough.

"So, tell me about your family." He says, looking at me and giving a half smile. I thought about what I was going to say.

"Well, I live with my parents." I say and he gestures for me to say more. "And, and my mom is really sick." I said, and he asked what she was sick with.  "Oh you know, the flu."  I waved it off and we continued talking until we reached the school gates. I took a deep breath in.

Maxxie chuckled. "Nervous?"

"Very."

The first few hours were not that bad, I didn't have to introduce myself to the class or anything, and Maxxie introduced me to his group of friends. Michelle, Tony, Sid, Chris, Anwar, Cassie and Jal. They all seemed nice, but Anwar, Sid and Chris were staring at my boobs a lot.  They were all really funny and a bit dirty. I felt like all my worries had gone away, until it was time to go home. Then I would have to face my dad and see my mom in pain.

The final bell rung indicating that the day was over. I was pulling out my books from my locker and when I closed the locker door, behind it was Maxxie, who nearly gave me a heart attack, "Fuck." I muttered as I dropped my books in fright.

"Oh, sorry." He chuckled, bending down and picking up half my books for me. "You want to walk home together?" He asked and I agreed. We walked back home. When we were at my apartment level, I was confused that Maxxie was here with me, when his apartment was a few more doors away. I really wanted him to leave, just in case my dad came out or Maxxie heard my dad from inside.

"Isn't there somewhere else you have to be?" I giggled, walking as slowly as I could towards my door.

"You should come over some time." Maxxie said, putting his hands in his jackets pockets.

"Yeah, sure. But not tonight. I'm really tired." I said, smiling at him.

"Sure, sure. Well, if you ever need me, you know where I am." He winked before turning around on his heels and strutting down the corridor.

I stood there watching him disappear for a while, with a big stupid smile on my face. He opened his apartment door and before he entered it, he looked at me and winked again, and my heart fluttered.

"Fiona! Get in here now!" I winced at my dad's voice booming from the other side of the door. I turned the door knob and was greeted with a slap on the cheek. I stumbled back a bit, towards the door when my dad roughly grabbed my wrist and pulled me inside, rough enough to make me fall to the ground. "Who was that?" He growled. I shook my head, not wanting to tell him, and he grabbed my jaw, squeezing it. "Who was that?" He said with his teeth clenched.

"M-My friend." I stuttered and he let go, pushing me flat on my back. He hovered over me and began to unbuckle his belt. "No," I begged, "No! Mum! Mum!"

"Shut the fuck up!" My dad growled, hitting me across the face again. I silently cried as he was about to do it when there was a knock on the door. He froze for a minute, waiting for whoever that was behind the door would leave. But they didn't, and continued to knock. "You go answer it. Don't tell them anything, alright?" He whispered, standing up and re doing his buckle.
