"Why are you here?" I ask shortly.
"You ran off. I haven't seen you in months. I was becoming my concerned." My mother spoke in a tone I know far too well as false love.
"Why are you really here?"
"I'm your mother. I'm worried."
"Mom, stop. Please just tell me. I know you don't care. I know you don't love me. Why are you here?"
"Olivia! Of course I care. I'm very proud of you. Eliminating the Hell Beast like that... Quite impressive. Why, you even had me fooled. I thought you really loved the girl!"

I seethe, but can't show it. I can't let her know.

"Of course not, mom. I'm not gay."
"I know that now, sweetie. But you had everyone fooled. Really you're just brilliant. Tricking a faggot like that... Amazing."
"Yes. Thank you."
"Honestly, it's a shame that the Hell Beast was... Like that. I almost feel bad for the dark beasts that that was their chosen one."
"Isn't it?"

My blood is boiling. I want to plunge a knife into her back. See how she likes it. I hope that she can't sense my tension.

"So, Olivia, dear," she begins, "You are also needed. By the light beasts."
"Why? I already killed the Hell Beast. What else could they want from me?"
"There has been... An unforeseen circumstance. The president would like to see you."
"The president?"
"Yes, Olivia. Our grand leader himself."

Any human that may hear us mention the president may think of the man in the White House. But the light beasts have a different president. He lives in a castle in a secluded part of Latvia. We used to call him our king, but more modern times called for a new term. The dark beasts also had a king, who lived in a castle in Transylvania. The humans believed him to be "Dracula".

"What would he want with me?" I inquire.
"I don't know. All he told me was there has been a slight issue that he would like to consult with you on," she responds.
"If it was a slight issue, he wouldn't need me."
"Olivia..."
"You know I'm right."
"Listen. You need to go. I doubt it's that bad."
"Alright. I will."
"Good."

She stands, and proceeds toward the threshold of the cave. She turns to me just before she leaves.

"If you want to come home, you can. We're still your family. You don't need to exile yourself."

With that, she turns and leaves me alone, with the dancing flames to keep my company.
